Doctor Who – The Eyeless by Lance Parkin

The Book

Published in 2008 by BBC Books, an imprint of Ebury Publishing. Ebury Publishing is a division of Random House Group LTD.

My copy is a first-print hardback. The book has 258 pages with an acknowledgements page and many pages dedicated to advertisements for other books in the series and from the publishers.

What Did I Think?

Many years ago, a war was being fought in space. One of the weapons being used in the war landed on a planet that had no connection to it. An enormous black pyramid landed in the middle of the city, landing on whatever was in its way.

It sent out an energy blast so powerful that it wiped out all life. Nothing survives except groups of people who were travelling in their version of a monorail system. But those that remain are few. And they must help to repopulate the planet.

Many years later, the Doctor arrives. Travelling on his own, he knows about the pyramid, and he needs to turn it off. It is still active, and anyone who gets near it is destroyed by the lightning or the ghosts that remain, like a nuclear shadow.

The locals, well, mostly a young lady, try to stop him. They don’t understand what is really happening and don’t know what he can do for them.

Another alien race arrives, and they want the power of the pyramind. They have promised many things to the people of this world. But only if they help them achieve their goals. However, the locals don’t seem to be impressed by how they communicate. They communicate by telepathy, and the local people don’t appreciate the intrusion into their minds

I think I have read this book before, but I don’t mind, as I enjoyed the adventure. The action was slow and fast, and the tension was exciting.

Mr Parkin does a great job of bringing the world, the people and the Doctor to life.

Would I Recommend?

Yes. I would recommend another adventure in this long series of books. I believe this is number thirty. Any Doctor Who fan is going to love this. I would say some who aren’t would enjoy it also.
