My Life That Happened In… #5

Episode #4

… February 2024

It’s Going Wrong Already

Tuesday 6th. I received a text from my driving instructor. She wouldn’t be able to do my driving test, on the 26th. Because she double booked. So, a tad stressed. I spent the next few hours, phoning several schools, until I could find a replacement. The assessment lesson is on the 12th at 8 am, with a company called driveJohnson’s. We will see how they go. They have an app.

Monday 12th. He didn’t show up. He did send a text explaining he had a dodgy gut.

Wednesday 14th. The instructor finally contacted me this morning. I am waiting to see what is going to happen next. There’s not a lot of time.

Some shopping

My case arrived for my Surface Duo 2. I had to modify it a little. But now, I can finally start using it as my new daily.

The case is a tad too big for my liking. But it will do for now. What am I doing with my old phone? I have decided to continue using it as a tablet and alarm clock for the bedroom.

A Girly Scream. Manly Moment

Tuesday 13th. Nothing major. I put a post out on Friday 2nd, that I started reading a new book on my Instagram and sharing it on Facebook. I’ll show you:

When I saw it, I had a moment and rushed into the front room. I couldn’t contain myself. I needed to show the wife. The wife. Impressed and wanted to know more. Whilst turning her attention back to her programs.

I think I took it quite well. All things considered.

It’s Time For The Renovation

Wednesday 14th. I did a manly thing as a homeowner. I replaced and upgraded the kitchen taps. We have had the same one since we moved in. They have been slowly getting worse, to the point when last month the cold tap stopped moving. So after a while of twisting, breaking and banging and with the wife looking over my shoulder. Asking me if I should be doing that and having an attack whilst I tried to get the job done.

Eventually, the new tap was installed.

Even though it does seem a bit big for the sink, I do like it. So what’s next?

Would you be interested in the tap yourself? It is a reasonably easy tap to install. It was a bit of a tight space to manoeuvre. We got it from Amazon. The price has to have gone up a fair bit.

It finally Happened

Monday 26th. After a couple of weeks of talking and taking some lessons. The test day has arrived, because of nerves. I wanted it to be over with already. But my instructor calmed me down and assured me, I could do it. He instructed me not to mess up for the first ten minutes and that everything will go smoothly. Well within the first two minutes, I stalled at the first roundabout.

Gaining my composure I put some extra gas in and off we went. The Examiner was great. I explained briefly my mental problems and what happened last time and asked him if it happened again could he, just simply, talk to me? He was more than willing to help. As far as I know, everything went as well as it could have, until the end.

I had a slightly nervous but relieved laughter moment when I achieved what had screwed me over the last time, the hill start.

Zoning Out

I didn’t even realise it was a thing. Well, I did, but I zoned out. I never said that but I did. We were on the last leg on the motorway towards the test centre. I was driving behind a lorry. I could have gone around the lorry, but I decided I was happy where I was. The problem the examiner had was I was getting too close for the lorry driver to see me.

In my head, everything was fine. I zoned out and stayed at the same speed. The lorry driver moved onward and I stayed where I was. Which I believed saved the day. Because when I parked up, I was informed that I had passed my test. Thank you, Mr or Mrs lorry driver.

My arms raised, in celebration. But after listening for a minute I had to get out of the car. All of that tension and stress dropped out of me. My instructor was surprised by how I was as I bent over to breathe. I didn’t have an attack but I felt a release.

I was shaking as we drove home. The examiner had taken my licence to be upgraded by the DVLA. But I have a nice certificate while I wait for my licence to return. I text the wife a photo of my certificate. She was at work while I was doing the test.

It’s Coming to An End.

I have finally been informed by letter that I will be losing my job on the 25th of May this year. I will talk about this in more detail after the fact. But I am not the only person this is happening to. So, I haven’t done anything wrong.

So, if anyone knows of a position I would be suited to: Please feel free to contact me.

That’s all for this month. I hope to see you in March.
