WOW!!!
Day 2: It Was Raining
The journey continues on the coach. We try to settle for the night, but it’s not going well. I am paranoid that I may stink a little from rushing to the coach. I gave myself a quick wash in the toilet and continued by cooling down with the air conditioning. The wife is watching Youtube on her phone.
The wife pulls me over a few hours later and tells me she is feeling sick. It’s been a long time since she has had motion sickness. She ends up going to the toilet a couple of times. The second time is when we finally stop to stretch our legs at motorway services. We grabbed a few drinks and headed back.
Before getting back to the coach, I spoke to the driver. Found out that we were a little behind schedule. And the emails I received about changes to the route were wrong. So the time I thought we were going to arrive. We would arrive about an hour and a bit earlier.
Back on to our travels: I suggest to the wife that she should try and get some sleep to settle her stomach. She fought it, of course. But after less than an hour, she was out to the world.
I was trying to sleep. All I could achieve was about ten or so minutes at a time. I was concerned about my snoring. But I did my best. We reached Plymouth, and the person sitting next to me got off the coach so the wife could come and sit next to me.
Finally, arriving in Penzance. I was relieved that I could stretch my legs again. I did have a problem with my hip locking during the night. Our journey wasn’t over yet. We had to take a couple more trains to get to St. Ives. There was fog over the water. So we couldn’t get a decent view of the horizon.
The next major problem happened when we reached St. Ives. The bloody hills. Everything is at a gradient. Google Maps doesn’t show this at all. Everything is uphill. We were exhausted by the time we finally arrived at the B&B.
We are staying at a place called Blue Sky. A B&B on Portminster Road. We were really early. About 4 hours. Simon, our host. Inviting us into the front room and offered us a pot of tea. We relaxed and spoke to an old couple who were having breakfast. The home is homely. And they have a grandfather clock. I love them and would love to have one. Maybe one day. But they are pretty expensive.
After a while of relaxing, I paid the rest of my invoice. We left our bags with them while we went out to look around St. Ives. Simon told us that the room would be a few hours before it was ready. He gave us a key to the room we would be staying in and told us to come back around half-twelve after giving us a map of the area.
We wandered off, heading towards the shops and the harbour apart from the gradients of the roads. The roads themselves are a health and safety disaster. The pavement is nearly non-existent. The vehicles were continuously overlapping with pedestrians. But we have worked it out. Everyone is a little more cautious. But continue with their travels, shopping and whatnot. The thing is, this can never really. Be fixed. The whole community: was built on hundreds of years of foundations. Buildings are stacked together amongst each other.
It was raining. Enough to notice but not to ruin whatever everyone was doing.
We walked around looking at what was available to everyone. We stopped at a few shops, bought some tourist items, and took a few pictures, ending with trying a pasty at a fancy cornish pasty shop. It wasn’t that great. We finished by getting some provisions for the room and then headed back.
We were returning to the B&B. The host told us the room was ready and was told about the fridge by our room with milk marked for each room. We can use it. But we should write our name on whatever we place in the mini-fridge. They had already put our bags in the room. We thanked them and headed up.
The room is brilliant. Probably the best room we have ever stayed in on our travels. The amount of extras we have received is worth the money they are charging.
We were tired from travelling all day. So we decided to stay and relax in the room for the rest of the day and start fresh in the morning. My wife watched shows on the tele while I wrote my blogs. It’s been fun.
An early night was needed for the both of us. We were knackered.
