On Our Travels Again
Day 1
Monday 7th March. It’s the wife’s birthday and it’s been decided that we will go away for a few days. Due to recent happenings. I’ll explain in a later blog. We both need time away to clear our heads and hopefully help the missus. I had been needing time away as well. The pressures of life grounded me down.
So it was decided, as the wife was paying for it. We are going to Margate.
Margate is a beach town in Kent. According to Google: “Margate is a town on England’s southeast coast. It’s known for its sandy beach. Near the Harbour Arm stone pier, the modern Turner Contemporary art gallery has rotating exhibitions. Dreamland Margate is an amusement park with vintage rides. Millions of seashells decorate the Shell Grotto’s underground passages. In a former police station in the old town, the Margate Museum has local history displays.” Very nice.
So we backed our bags and with a friend’s help, we made our way down. We had to stop off at the wife fathers home to sort out a few things but we were soon on our way. The journey down was pretty smooth no real problems. But finally, we made it.
The place we would be staying would be the Grace House B&B (without the other B at the moment). We had arrived a bit early, around two and the proprietor didn’t have our room ready. We asked if it was okay to leave our luggage with him and he was fine with it.
So we went with our friend to find a pub as the missus only wish was to have an Archers and Lemonade. We found a Brewers Fair pub/restaurant just around the corner and headed straight for it. The meal was… Meh! Okay. Price… Ridiculous. But we enjoyed each other’s company and that was all that mattered.
At about half three, myself and the missus said our goodbyes to our friend and we decided to walk back to the B&B. Walking inside felt like stepping back into history. The house had been updated. But cut short of finishing. The reception and waiting area was too large for what it was trying to achieve. But where we were living for the next few days you aren’t going to care.
The proprietor seemed a little nervous. He seemed to know what he was doing but for some reason felt like he didn’t belong there. Anyway we were given our key and he explained about coming in and out of the building and we headed to our room. This was when I suddenly realised I had left my bag in the car. I was straight on the phone when there was a knock at the door and he was there with my bag. I thanked him and he went on his way.
The room was on the top floor of the building and the missus didn’t enjoy climbing those steep stairs. But we arrived. The room itself was nice, and simple. It had everything we needed. Except for two things. A TV and WiFi. A TV I can get around. But WiFi, no. I went downstairs and eventually spoke to the man of the house. He gave me the WiFi password. Also, some towels and I headed back up. To note: I had seen the Modem/router for the internet. I wasn’t impressed as I knew if that was the source it wasn’t going to get up to my room due to the brickwork of the building. And I was right. My laptop couldn’t connect. So I tried to connect to the local B.T. WiFi network. I got through but the connection was so bad I couldn’t maintain a connection. So The last option I took was to see if I could upgrade my phone data. For about an extra £2.50 pm I could go from a 10 GB plan up to a 150 GB plan. Plus there was a bonus of an extra 30 GB. So Now I am getting 180 GB of data with unlimited calls and texts for £18. Which I think is pretty cool. If you were wondering It’s with Vodafone.
So I can now use my phone as a hub and this should cover me for while I am on holiday. The only problem is now I am stuck to another two-year contract.
The wife waited for me to sort all this out and after a little while, we went to get some provisions for the next couple of days. I noticed a Tesco extra on the road we came down on, to the B&B. So that’s where we headed. The wife made sure she got her booze and started on it straight away when we got back.
From this point, we relaxed. The wife watched her shows on YouTube, from her phone and I wrote this blog whilst listening to some soothing background music on YouTube. I’ve never used this before. Normally I listen to audiobook plays. I am enjoying it and it’s helping to focus. We will adventure out properly tomorrow. But for now, we are enjoying each other’s company and doing our own thing.
