My Life That Happened In #24

Episode #23

… September 2025

Monday 1st

Resting on the sofa. Today is my day off. My food for work needs to be prepared, and I need to get everything ready for my next shift.

I rested by watching the latest wrestling PPV and having something to eat. I need to top up provisions for the fridge.

Today, I am finishing up my life journal/ blog, which I will need to release tomorrow. Well, I don’t need to, but I need to achieve this.

I am not happy. As I have spent a stupid amount of money on my annual car insurance, I was hoping to get a renewal quote from my current broker. But they will not be releasing that for at least another week. So I have to find one now.

And because I do not want a black box in my car, I have had to pay extra for that privilege. It was a lot cheaper to own a motorcycle.

We took a trip to Lakeside. I needed some socks, and the missus had to go to work. But not before buying her own clothes: a Chucky T-shirt and a couple of pairs of scream socks. Before going, I popped into Greggs. After I went to my sister’s house to help with a problem my nephew had, before going in, I stuffed a couple of bacon rolls down my throat.

It turns out I couldn’t help the way I was asked to help due to them not having the right materials for the job.

I did make a suggestion, but I will see how that pans out. Either way, we had a nice catch-up, and I got jumped on by one of her dogs.

Tuesdays 2nd

At work again. I was a little happy because it was the new book club day. It was going to happen at ten, so I had to get through my shift, which was easy enough as I spent it on the shop floor. Restocking whatever was empty.

I did get a text from my sister asking if I could come over. But I had to decline. Mainly because I was at work and I had things to do later. I suggested I could come over on the weekend.

After finishing work, I got home and did what I normally do when I get home before relaxing. We had to leave a little early as I had to take the missus to work and head back to work for the meeting.

There were more people than expected; it was a good turnout. We took turns telling some things about ourselves and our history with books.

In the end, we found out what the first book was going to be: The Thursday Murder Club. I have to finish my current book I’m reading, and then I’ll make a start. I am also glad this book was picked. So now I have an even bigger excuse to watch the movie.

Wednesday 3rd

I started today as I do most nights, helping with gatekeeping until the designated gatekeeper arrives, and then I continue with my given job for the day.

I wasn’t in a rush today. Waking up before shift, I wasn’t feeling great. I’m okay, but I think I was still feeling the effects of the attack I had had a few days ago, or I felt that one was brewing; I couldn’t tell. I wasn’t feeling great. The breathing problem started, which is an indicator, so my wife checked if I was okay.

I felt better once I got to work and got into the flow of things.

I did have a run-in with a delivery driver, which annoyed me for a while. But I continued as best as I could.

Good news. My wife is keeping her job. It turns out that her shop was one of many that the company was able to save, although a large number of shops will be closing down. But the wife has now mentally checked out; she is seeking employment elsewhere.

Thursday 4th

Work was okay today. My body was a little tired, but it got worse when I returned from clearing some bales of cardboard from outside on the counterbalance. Getting off once back inside, my knee gave out on me. If I weren’t wearing my compression sleeve, I would have been on the floor. But I held it together until I was home. I needed to rest it.

Some changes are happening at work, and they will affect many people. I am not one of those affected.

At home, I was still a little unstable in my knee, but I needed to go out. A sequel to a book I had read before and enjoyed was released today, and I wanted to get it. So off to Waterstones we went after the missus had stocked up on Greggs. The wife also sent me an image of a book when I was at the Book Club meeting, so I had a look at it.

It isn’t a new book but a new print being translated and released in the UK. It is an old story published in Japan in 1973. I will give it a go.

Friday 5th

I wasn’t in the best of conditions going into work. My knee hadn’t sorted itself out, and I wasn’t sure I could make it through the night. But it was made better that I was Gatekeeping. I didn’t need to worry about overdoing it while pushing and pulling heavy pallets. And over the night, the light walking and little rests helped a great deal until I was walking normally and without pain by the end of the shift.

At home, I stayed up for a while and went to bed with my book.

Saturday 6th

It’s a day off today, and I should be catching up with things, but I don’t have it in me at the moment. I know that’s not an excuse, but I just can’t be bothered. I watched my wrestling and cooked up some food. Taking a nap, I was woken by my wife. She doesn’t look well. I have an idea of what it could be.

I will be notified later.

The plan is to go shopping, and I am supposed to visit my sister. However, I am not sure yet if that is happening. I will find out soon enough.

While doom scrolling, I bought a couple of things and renewed my licences so I can continue with this website for another three years. I was a little early, but I don’t care. It was cheaper than last time, but still a large sum of money. However, I am willing to pay it to help with my mindset.

Much later, I was supposed to go out, but as we ordered from an online food shop, I had an attack. I don’t know why it happens during a food shop, but it screwed up the rest of the day, and I will have to visit my sister tomorrow.

Forcing myself to bed and read before going to sleep. I must learn to control my doom scrolling.

Sunday 7th

I woke up early, wanting to get everything done before visiting my sister. The wife had other plans. She is still not feeling great, but insisted on “cuggles” before I continued anything.

I haven’t done too badly. I have nearly everything I wanted to be done; it’s either finished or needs finishing up tomorrow.

Monday 8th

It was a nice day at work, and I was replenishing, but it began with a little bit of gatekeeping. I was even able to start my first aid duties as well. I am a week late to begin, but I have started, so I am happy. Hopefully, I will be able to finish it off tomorrow.

Upon returning home, the wife had decided the day before that we were going shopping. So, I finished my routine and uploaded my latest video.

Rushing around, we were able to get what we wanted, and then I dropped off my wife at her workplace. Back home, I put everything away and rested before going to bed.

The wife’s work is screwing with her. It turns out that she may still lose her job after all that was said before. Give them a few days, and they may change their mind again.

Tuesday 9th

Another day at work. I was on gatekeeping, but they messed up, believing the normal gatekeeper was off. So they had an extra person, but kept me on while they worked on other things. I didn’t mind; I needed to relax a little, even with the stress of the workload. Near the end of the shift, the work was done. I helped replenish some stock on the shop floor.

I’ve put myself forward to help with tipping trailers. There has been a change in one of the co-workers’ work commitment. So they are after more people to tip trailers. But this means more experience and practice on the counterbalance.

I helped another person who was chosen today. While he gained experience, I helped them to understand a little of what their job would entail. This also meant that I understood more than I thought I did. But there is still a long way to go.

Getting home, I took my wife to work and uploaded the latest Book Report.

Rude

I believe I have been a bit rude. The postman woke me up. But I blanked him, not realising he had said something until after it happened. I think he said “Have a nice day,” but I slowly withdrew it as he said it. And then again, a little while later, a package needed to be picked up. I am not sure if she was lying about us having to decide who prints the label.

Anyway, I woke up to an extra package to open as well as my new book.

Good news, I have a new book. Which is a sequel to a book I have read previously. Bad news, the compression sleeve for my knee doesn’t fit. So I will have to send that back. Good news, a local Chinese restaurant we used to love visiting has expanded its delivery area.

Wednesday 10th

Another busy day at work. I completed the jobs that I needed to get done. This included gatekeeping and replenishment. And I was able to complete my first aid duties. The only thing I was unable to start was, but I think it was due to too much work. I wasn’t able to begin tipping trailers on a counterbalance.

My brother is trying to get me into buying Pokémon cards. I understand what he is doing, but it does feel scummy with all the scalpers ripping people off.

The wife has been told that she is only getting paid two weeks’ money. And then they will get the rest later. According to what I know, including the 1996 Employment Act. That is Illegal.

Thursday 11th

Day off today. I’m trying to get as many of the blogs done as possible. I am not getting as much done as I would like.

I still need to prepare for my next shift, but I will relax as much as possible.

The missus is up early, unable to sleep. So she jumped on her many plants again. Giving me great detail about all of them. As I am not using the office to write things down, I have the light on all of the time, and it is starting to bug me. That’s a lie, as soon as I turned it on, it started bugging me. I didn’t want to be cramped in the office.

The wife is thinking of calling ACAS. They are a free, independent body that advises people on employment law. They are the people you call when you are getting nowhere with your employers.

Friday 12th

Work was stressful. While dealing with waiting trailers, I had a driver moaning about not being seen quickly enough. He walked from the gate outside to confront me. I basically told him that I don’t care about his problems and I have other things that are more important to take care of first. His job isn’t my priority. He suddenly became my best friend. And behaved himself.

We had to transfer two trailers for tomorrow and send another away as we weren’t expecting him.

I did get some nice pictures of the latest plants delivered for the missus.

It was also my turn to cook, so I made sure everyone was fed.

At home, I enjoyed not having to take my wife to work and relaxed before going to bed.

Saturday 13th

I don’t know why it is so busy at work. The stock that keeps coming in doesn’t meet the correct amount of stock we need.

By the time I left, the loading bay had been filled to a point that was nearly impossible to walk through. But I had done my job and even helped briefly on the shop floor.

Sunday 14th

I booked a holiday for tonight and rested by doomscrolling again. Things needed to be done, but I wasn’t ready. I ate some food and then had a nap, which went a bit longer than expected.

We are having a date day, and we both couldn’t be bothered with it, but we pushed ourselves to go. I had booked two cinema tickets to the first movie of the Cornetto series: Shaun of the Dead.

I think it went well. We went home, and I had already begun thinking of having pizza for dinner as I had earned some credit with Papa John’s.

I still wasn’t feeling too great, so I did some window shopping before going to the cinema and continued when we returned. I found something I have been after for a long time, but it was never the right time to buy it until now. There were also some ideas for modifying the item. When I receive it, I will have another think.

Monday 15th

Another day off, but I also had to prepare to go back to work.

While I wait, I finish uploading this week’s video and work out to rectify the plan I had for how this day was going to go. Nothing major. I had an order I wanted to do things, and now that order has changed.

Tuesday 16th

Things were a bit different, but also the same. Trailers were 2 hours late, and 2 trailers were a no-show. So I was able to catch up on some paperwork. At the same time, because the computer was updated three times and I lost access to the scanner and the network, I have emailed, hopefully, the right person for help.

We ran out of time for unloading. Paperwork wasn’t finished, but I completed what I could. With no scanner, I had to download an old scanner app on my phone so I could make copies of documents and file them away.

I caught up with a couple of members of the book club to see how they are doing. I am at about ninety pages left after reading some more before bed.

I’m counting the days until my new watch arrives. I am thinking of possible Christmas presents.

At home, I relaxed, took my wife to work and watched some wrestling before it was time to go to bed.

Wednesday 17th

A hectic day at work, and we did a good job with what we had to do. I was pulled into something I shouldn’t have been, and I have a sneaking suspicion they knew that. But I rescued myself by getting the manager involved and had him confirm the action.

Thursday 18th

Today was a lot quieter at work. A nice, slow pace, but I still ended up with eye strain. The tinted glasses had to come out to help prevent a migraine. I was called in to be the chef for this morning, and was not pleased with the amount of food they gave me to cook. So I had to fix that by adding extra food to everything.

I even tried some of the food I cooked for my lunch. The sausages weren’t bad. Don’t worry, it was the food that was left over after everyone had their fill.

During lunch, I finished my book club book. A tad annoyed about that, but now I had to search for a new book.

I wasn’t able to finish the paperwork, mainly due to the last delivery I was involved with. The driver was having a tantrum about returns. I can understand his frustration, but there needs to be some professionalism. You are representing your company.

Back home, I had to get the big guns of my tinted glasses as I could shift the growing pain.

Before bed, I decided on the next book and started reading before falling asleep.

Friday 19th

It was less stressful than the day before, and I was able to complete some other things. I finished the paperwork from the day before and nearly completed everything for today, but a delivery arrived just as I was about to finish for the day.

I have also been retrained on something I have been waiting to get access to. Hoping access will be along shortly.

My head was okay eventually. Before I started my shift, I wasn’t so sure my head would make it through the night. The eye strain hadn’t eased off completely, but it was enough for me not to wear my tinted glasses. But some fresh air now and then did help a little. I was a chef again, and I had to add extra to the amount set up, with enough left over to add to my lunch.

As usual, the food was a hit.

Saturday 20th

My day off. Plans have been made. We will see if they happen. I began with the usual, some doomscrolling, and after some work, I created my next video and added to my blog, and then took a nap.

We were planning to go out. But after some discussion, we decided that it was in our best interests. So we ordered some provisions online and settled in for the day.

I have uploaded my latest video for Monday and continued to try to finish my blogs, but I’m never finished. In an already published post, I forgot to update some of the links.

I made a mistake. I watched the Thursday Murder Club after reading the book. The movie wasn’t great, and they butchered the book.

Sunday 21st

Time to get ready for work again. We both were up early this morning, and we had a few things to sort out that were started but weren’t finished. Maybe later. I created my meals for the next couple of days and had something to eat while I watched a wrestling PPV.

We are looking at a new vacuum cleaner. But we will see how the filters act after leaving them to dry. There was a suction problem with our current vacuum.

I woke up with a headache. I forgot to put on my mouthguard. My 10-minute mobility workout helped a little, and hopefully some fresh air will do the trick.

Monday 22nd

Back to work and back to the grind. I am gatekeeping, and it went well until I received a call at 3.35 in the morning telling me that no one has shown up to cook. So I rushed upstairs and cooked. The food came out about fifteen minutes late, and a lot of food was left over, but it was done.

I was able to get the paperwork done with a couple of minutes to spare before leaving.

Back home, I finished sharing and uploading this week’s video and took my wife to work.

My latest book is going to take longer than normal to read, I think. Still not sure what the point of the book is yet. But I will continue until it’s done.

The weather is starting to turn. I had to close the window when I went to bed; it’s getting cold. I am even beginning to feel it at work.

Good news, my new watch has arrived. Don’t like the strap. May have to change that.

Tuesday 23rd

A couple of trailers didn’t arrive; it was a bit busy. Mainly because I had to tip a trailer with a colleague, both of us need experience as we need drivers. I did this while continuing my gatekeeping job.

I received some bad news from my brother. The message was a day late, as I don’t go on Facebook often. I was on the phone with my other brother when I found the message.

Wednesday 24th

I was doing a bit of everything today. Started with gatekeeping. Then I was on the shop floor replenishing pallets. That led to cooking, as no one was in. Back to replenishing after lunch, and another job I didn’t know I had to do was a dangerous pallet check. Then, before going home, I disposed of the rubbish and fixed the compactor, as it had a blockage.

Getting home, I took my wife to work and tried to relax at home, remembering I was going to pop round and see my brother tonight.

It is also annoying that I have to wait for the post to arrive before I can go to bed.

Waking up, it was part of my day off. So I relaxed as much as I could; meanwhile, the wife was having a fit because the plant she had ordered stated it was delivered, but she hadn’t received it. So I took a look at the photo from the post office. And then went to look at the letterbox, and I realised what had happened.

The postman had put the parcel in the letterbox above ours. There was no indication of a number in the photo, as that was blocked out; however, a smudge of dirt on the letterbox in the photo told me where it went.

Thursday 25th

The wife went to bed, and I continued with my lazy video and doomscrolling. I had some food and got bored. I created meals for the next couple of days for work and then caught up on some episodes of Squid Game.

Around six, the wife was up, and I began to get ready to visit my brother. I also thought this was a good time to send over the item my nephew ordered that I helped set up.

The wife gave my brother a plant from her cuttings.

After spending time with my family, I headed back home to my wife, where I took her to work. She only has a couple of days left until she loses her job. She isn’t happy about it, but she has made some good friends there.

Urges

There was an urge for some chocolate, so I went into Lakeside with her and visited Greggs and Poundland to stock up on some snacks.

Walking by, I had a calling to go to Waterstones, and I didn’t know why until I saw the book. I was thrilled. The author of Days at the Morisake Bookshop, Satoshi Yagisawa, has released another book in the UK from Japan.

For that brief moment, I was giddy with excitement when I picked up the book. The missus didn’t understand. I hadn’t known this was being released, and then, finding out online that it was published today, was pure luck.

After leaving the wife, I got home and readied myself for bed, but not after eating some of what I brought home.

I woke up to find out that I paid Ne Ne’s insurance twice. I forgot, but I was sure I turned off autorenewal. But it doesn’t matter, I have two and I need to get rid of one, something to do for tomorrow.

Friday 26th

A quietish night at work. I started with a little gatekeeping and then went onto the shop floor to replenish for most of the night. Ultimately, I was asked to work on a truck. I ran out of time to finish everything that was asked of me.

Before that, I had to fill in a medical form that may lead to an Occupational Health consultation. We will see. My health has improved since I left and came to the place I work now. I have hit a few bumps, but I have had fewer panic attacks, to the point they don’t exist, and my general mental health is better. Even my arthritis is better. This is due to more physical exercise.

When I got home, I sorted out my insurance, and I ended up losing about 150 quid to fees and such.

Saturday 27th

The shift went as well as it could have. I was called in to cook lunch as one of the chefs didn’t turn up. I did screw myself up a little. When I work, I wear a hat. This hat helps with my mental health. Relaxing my head, like a blanket. It also helps prevent eye strain due to the lights in the warehouse. I can get away with not wearing it, but that is for when I don’t want to get heat stroke while doing the heavy lifting and sweating. Or when I am having a good day.

But I thought I was doing okay and left the hat in the car after lunch. It wasn’t until the last hour that I started to notice the lighting in the building was affecting me. Getting home, I was still feeling the effects of before and had a feeling I was going to have an attack and had to deal with feeling like this until after I took my wife to work and before that, we went shopping to top up the fridge.

At home, I relaxed. Had something to eat while watching some wrestling before reading and going to sleep.

Waking up for work, I still have a tension headache, but I am better. I had to get through my shift, and then I could have a day off.

I was able to create my next video for Monday, so I am happy about that.

Sunday 28th

Arriving at work, I still wasn’t feeling right. So I had to make sure the manager knew when I saw him. I did try a rage music therapy session, but barely an hour into the shift, it wasn’t working, and I gave in and told myself to let it happen, and I had an attack. The manager was there and saw that I was off. He helped walk into the loading office and then asked what he could do.

And all he could do was talk to me, and we had a conversation while I went through the motions.

After the attack, I did feel better. This was one of those times when fighting wasn’t an option.

Later on. After cooking and having lunch, I helped out with replenishing an area and realised I might have been listening to the wrong music. I started listening to a band named Baby Metal to cheer me up, and continued until my speaker ran out of battery.

While I was making my way to the canteen, I had a walk around the plant section and took a couple of photos I thought the wife might like. I was right.

At home, I started sorting out my things and relaxed as best as I could before going to bed. I also made sure my next video was uploaded and ready for release on Monday morning.

Monday 29th

Relaxing as I always do on my day off. I never really get much done. But today was one of those days I shouldn’t do anything but rest. And that is what I will try to do. Whilst getting everything ready for work. I also had to finish of my latest video.

The wife woke up and was feeling depressed from losing her job. It is perfectly natural, and I would be surprised if she weren’t.

The plan was to visit the plants I took photos of to cheer the wife up a little. The problem is we are bouncing our mental health problems off each other, and it’s made us tired. I have had to wear my tinted glasses as my eye strain has started up.

My new watch arrived. It is a tad smaller than I thought, and I will be adding to my collection. I am looking at a box to put them in, and I am also looking for my next watch.

Tuesday 30th

First day back from a day off, and what the hell are they playing at? The amount of work that was sent to us was way too much. I was tag-teaming as a gatekeeper with one other person. And we still couldn’t finish the paperwork. We had a driver who arrived way too early and wondered why we didn’t sort them out straight away. But they would have been able to get a full night’s sleep for the time they were stuck there. Another decided to destroy company property, and in the end, we rejected their delivery.

Finally getting home, it was decided that we would pop out for a little while. Out in the sun, get some fresh air, and plant shopping.

The wife wanted to see if she could start a new little side business. And as she had some extra time on her hands while she was looking for a job. I bought some plants that she could propagate and hopefully sell at a later date.

I have also, while at work, been having a feeling, not one of dread, but a concern that the month shouldn’t end. Something may happen if it does. I don’t know what exactly, but… Is time running out?

That’s it for this month. Thanks for stopping by, and I’ll see ya next month.
