Day 8: Time To Say Goodbye.
We woke up early today. It is going to be a long day. We packed the last of our belongings and waited for the taxi to pick us up. We won’t be home until late tonight. The wife is not looking forwards to this.
As much as I like St. Ives, I am glad I will not have to climb everywhere to get to any place. I need flat roads, no hills or what feels like cliff faces. St. Ives has been designed with the needs of the tourists in mind, which is good for business. But because of this, the natural charm of the local shoppe has been pushed away. And even though the big “main” brands don’t exist here. The shops that are here feel like the “main” brand. Fair enough, you will get the odd one or two real shops. The rest, Meh!
I may be wrong here, but I don’t understand all of these art gallery shops. There are lots of them.
Sorry for the rant. I just find it all annoying. When looking at the products in the shops, you want to know that the item you have bought, has been created locally. But then find out they aren’t made locally but sold on Aliexpress. I checked.
I can not recommend them enough. The hosts: Simon and Lindsey. Have been there for all of our needs. The rooms are beyond what we asked for also this is the first place that I didn’t need to complain about the Wifi. The wifi here is better than what I have at home. The food is good. The little extras that they don’t need to give. Are simple but very much appreciated.
We had a light breakfast this morning. I didn’t want the need to be wanting the toilet on our travels.
Sadly no new additions to the teapot collection. We had the same white one from yesterday.
We took a cab to St. Ives station. From there, we took a train to St. Erth and then one more train to Penzance.
We had to wait around as we were a little early. But we left on time.
The journey was long. The wife took a motion sickness tablet, which helped her sleep for a while. We stopped at Plymouth around 3 pm. They changed the driver, and we were able to stretch our legs. So we popped into the B&M for some supplies. When we came back, they were letting on more passengers.
We stopped again just after 18.15 at Leigh Delamere Services. Again, so the driver can have a break and for everyone to have a walk around. The final leg of the coach journey took just over two hours, and we made it back to London Victoria Coach station. Onto the District line tube to Barking. Here we had to wait for the right train to our stop.
We were then back at Grays Station. But I cocked up and got my times wrong. We missed the last bus home. So with the last remnants of my battery, I managed to get a Bolt cab driver to pick us up and take us home.
We quickly unpacked. It had just gone midnight. The wife went to bed, and I stayed up a while and watched some tele. I ended up waking at gone eight in the morning.
It’s the next day. And we are still tired from the past week. Luckily, we still have a few days left. So we can relax at home, before going back to work.
One upside. I ordered a Stephen king book: On Writing A Memoir. I bought, what I thought, was a cheap second-hand paperback. I received a second-hand Hardback 1st print. Nice.
