The Fowl Twins By Eoin Colfer

Book 3 – Get What They Deserve

The Book

This book is part of a very long list of books that are waiting for me to read in my To Be Read bookcase. I believe I have completed the top shelf of some of my book collection.

Disney-Hyperion first published this book, an imprint of Buena Vista Books, Inc., and by HarperCollins Children’s Books, in the UK, a division of HarperCollins Publishers Ltd. The date was 19th October 2021.

I am proud to own a first print, limited, signed edition of the book.

What Did I Think

I have been waiting a long time to finally read the third and final instalment of the Fowl Twins.

The Fowl Twins is a spin-off series originating from a series called Artemis Fowl. Artemis Fowl is/ was a criminal boy genius who worked out that the fairy world existed and found a way to penetrate it for his own means. During his time, about six books worth, he found out that his dad was still alive and devised a way to get him back to his mother, who had been spending years in bed, with chronic depression.

And because of his mother’s condition, Artemis was free to do whatever he could think of without getting into trouble and, well, not being caught. But his underlying reason was to support his mother and provide for the family.

This reunion led to the creation of the Fowl Twins: Myles and Beckett. Myles and Beckett are another Artemis, but split down the middle. Myles is the technical brain of the team but suffers from various mental health issues. Beckett is not the same, although he’s a genius in his own way. He is more empathetic and sees the world differently. He is also more prepared to fight and risk more while looking out for his brother.

Ego

This final instalment takes them against their nemesis, Lord Teddy Bleedham-drye. Who has found a way to cheat death one more time. And the disgust he has for the twins has caused him to act more dangerously, increasing his chance of dying.

All he had to do was stay away from the kids and continue his life in the background. But his hubris, believing he is better than them and his ego, not letting himself control his anger towards a couple of twelve-year-olds and a fairy.

Because of the danger that the Fowls family represents to the fairy kingdom. The fairy police have appointed an ambassador and minder to the twins, as they did with Artemis. She is a pixie-elf hybrid, Lazuli Heitz. Together, through their bond, they formed a friendship and a team, the Regrettables.

They even have a theme tune, much to Myles’s displeasure.

Mr Colfer wrote this book for a younger audience. The fun fantasy adventure story will appeal to a whole variety of people, whether young or old. The storytelling is in a comic book style of writing, as he places references for those who may wish to go back to a previous story, and Mr Colfer narrates to the reader, reading the book.

The story is fun but doesn’t take itself too seriously. And at the same time, it delivers a fast-paced action sequel that most would enjoy.

Would I Recommend

Yes, wholeheartedly. I recommend this to anyone who enjoys a fun fantasy, sci-fi, action, and adventure, at any age. And if you try this book out, I also recommend going back to the beginning with Artemis Fowl. But whatever you do, do not watch the movie. It is a disgrace to the original material. You have been warned.

Please give this book a go.
