Welcome to Brighton #2
Day 2
21st July 2021
Its just after five in the morning and we were awoken to the glorious sounds of the orchestra of the seagulls. Screaming their little bastard heads off. We try shutting the windows. But seeing as the windows aren’t double glazed. It was useless. As soon as we were properly awake. Amazingly the concert was over, motherf…
The wife wanted to go for a little walk before breakfast but starts screaming in pain as for some how, she had twisted her knee the day before. So she rested for a little while and then got ready as I sat down and start writing day one and then begin of day two, of the this blog.
The sun had got to me. Me being an idiot, even though I brought sun screen, I didn’t use it. But I compensated with overdosing on fluids. My head felt a bit tight but looks reasonably okay.
It was about half eight when we went down for breakfast.
The breakfast area looks nice. Looking slightly dated and modern at the same time.
The menu was a sheet of paper with a pen. We had to tick the boxes of all the thing that we wanted.
The meal itself wasn’t bad. We had a long walk ahead of us and we needed all the energy we could get.
First things first. We needed to find a chemist. So we could find a tube grip to help with the wife’s twisted knee. I found a boots on Google maps and it was about a fifteen minute walk. So, off we went.
After a slow steady walk, up hill. We managed to find Boots. Walking in. Even though restrictions have been lifted. People are still wearing masks. Each to their own, I guess. Anyway, after some searching and help from a member of staff, loaning us a pair of scissors. We found the tube grip. Cut the amount we needed and the wife was supported enough for us to continue our journey. Next stop McDonalds. The wife needed her caffeine fix.
After a little walk around we managed to find a shopping center. Walking around a little more we found a Maccy D’s in the food court. Now that she was happy we could start the actual trip we wanted to go on. The wife wanted to go to a place called the lanes. This is a series of streets where you can find odds and sorts, this and that, nick knacks. And other bits and pieces.
Hidden art work is found here and there. You have to keep your eyes open or you’ll miss it.
When the wife’s in shopping mode, there is no stopping her. She does her best to get me involved and excited for everything she sees. But I just can’t do it. I don’t know why but I just don’t need to be excited for everything. I see problems in things she likes or it’s simply I don’t have the same tastes as she has. I end up getting grumpy about it all. And she gets annoyed when I don’t see her vision. Or I tell her some truths about things she sees. She doesn’t like it when I spoil her excitement. So we end up moaning and arguing at times. The best thing for me to do is to step back and let her get on with it. Until it’s time to move on to something else.
The missus found a shop and dragged me in. The shop is called Snoopers Paradise ( Facebook, Instagram, Twitter). She was rushing around doing her thing. This place is massive, with stuff everywhere. I slowly walked around occasionally seeing something I might like. But I am just window shopping. She sees something and the excitement begins. She calls someone to help, as it’s in a glass cabinet. Turns it on and that’s it she’s buying. This is what she bought:
But this is what made her buy it:
After leaving the shop we wondered around for a while until the wife spotted a Studio Ghibli book in a window and went inside to ask the proprietor about it. This place is called Dave’s Comics ( Facebook, Instagram, Twitter). We ended up staying a little longer. Looking around the shop. The shop is a bit cramped but you can get around. The wife bought me and herself a couple of Funko pops:
We walk around some more along the different streets. But nothing really catches our eyes. So we decided to make our way to the pier. Not realising how far away we were. We started our walk. The sun was still going strong but so were we. We eventually found a shop and bought some soft drinks to help rehydrate. I decided that I wanted some two litre bottles as it would be cheaper in the long run. I would pay for it later though. Lugging those bottles in my shoulder bag.
Around the corner from the shop there is a grassy area and we decided to rest for a while and hide from the sun, under a tree.
After resting for a while. We made the last hundred meters to Brighton Pier.
Sorry wrong camera setting. Again. And again.
Brighton Palace Pier is full of foods and drink sellers and tourist shops. There are two sheltered areas with arcade, video and your traditional seaside and funfair games to amuse people of all ages. The wife loves her crane (grabber) machine games and will spend a small fortune if she could get a way with it. I, myself generally enjoy the ticket machines. If I can find the right one. The right one is the machine that releases the most tickets with the least amount of effort. There is generally always one machine that does this. But this place was too crowded to find that single machine.
The wife withdrew some money and set to work. Just to let you know that they have cash machines inside. But they charge £1.95 to make a withdrawal.
The wife was only able to to win one item. But she’s happy:
I wanted to see the rest of the pier. So we went for a walk.
Toilets are inbetween the two arcades. The back, left side of the pier. The back, right side of the pier.
We were done. The heat, the walking, all of it. We were done. We needed to rest so we decided it was time to head back to the hotel.
Hi Adam. MOOO!
We took ourselves and our belongings and went back to our room. It took a while but we made it. Finally taking my shoulder bag off. The pain I received from my shoulder was bad. It didn’t ease off until I woke up the next morning. The wife was having her own problems but we got ourselves sorted and laid back on our bed and relaxed for the next few hours.
We got a little hungry later and ordered some KFC. Everything was fine until it arrived. When I went downstairs to collect it. I found out that we needed a two digit code to be able to get the food. We didn’t get one. So I went back up stairs trying to find this code. While I was trying to access the wife’s emails to find the code. We didn’t have the Deliveroo app or thought we needed it as we ordered straight from the KFC website. The wife got a call from the delivery driver and ended up going back downstairs and had to speak to Deliveroo customer services. When we finally able to get our food. Which ended up being cold in the end. So that was fun.
The rest of the night was spent relaxing, watching tele. Going through the photos we took during the day, until we finally fell asleep.
