Things I Have Bought #5

Epson Expression Premium XP-6105

It was a sad, sad day. Rest in peace dear friend.

About two months ago I was minding my own business. Using my computer for the various things that I do. When I needed to use my printer. So, as you do, I turned it on and returned to my seat. Looked over at the printer and it was off. I went back and pressed the on button again. Nothing. Several more times. Nothing. It was then that I remembered a slight PHFFT sound. I realise the old girl was dead.

I wasn’t happy. I loved my Epson Expression Premium XP-610. She was the best printer I ever had. She served me well. Lasting at least six to seven years. I knew she was getting on a bit as her scanning time had increased to a minute a scan. But I loved the old ink well. Sniff!

But the time had come to say goodbye and purchase a new printer. I knew what I wanted. Just an upgraded version of what I already had. And it had to do exactly the same as my treasured XP-610:

Have the twin drawers for paper and photo paper. Have Wi-fi so I could use it in another room. Also have a drawer for, if I ever need the ability to print on CDs and DVDs. I know most printer these days have this in one form or another but not all have the option of a DVD tray.

After looking through the Epson listings I found what I wanted. The XP-6100 by Epson.

I thought it would be easy to find a new printer to buy. I thought as the Covid working from home demand had diminished, I would be able to find one easy. I was sort of right the only problem was the companies hadn’t caught up and were still trying to recover from the boom of sales to get new stock out. So, I spent most of the month trying to find an alternative to what I wanted. But everything was sold out. No matter where I tried I couldn’t buy one. There was of course the option to buy a HP or a Cannon printer. Yeah right! They maybe good but I wanted my Epson and that was that!

So, after a while of continuous looking I went back to the Epson site and found what I was looking for. But there was a problem. The printer I found was the one I wanted but in a different colour. It also had a slightly different number. I couldn’t buy the XP-6100. But instead I was allowed to purchase the XP-6105. The same printer but in the colour white. I know, I know. What’s the problem? It’s just a printer. But… White? Really? I am an old school goth/ metal head. The colour black streams through my veins. It’s like Christ coming back. Probably a nice bloke, but no.

After some umming and ahing I decided to purchase the XP-6105. Then the next lot of fun started.

A couple of days after paying for it I received and email:

You have chosen a very popular product from Epson. Unfortunately, due to the increased demand, we are awaiting further stock. For this reason, the delivery of your order will be delayed a few more days. We would kindly ask you to be patient. We appreciate your understanding.

Your order will remain reserved for you.

So I was like. Okay that’s fine. I then started getting emails on how to use my new printer. Which was nice. But I would like to have it in my possession first before I start getting these how to emails.

About a week later I got the same email, telling me of the same delay. Again I was okay with this but I was getting a little edgy. I wanted my printer. So again I waited. For nearly a couple of more weeks and then I decided to email back.

Hi, just wanted to get an update on my order. Is there any chance of getting it any time soon? If not please tell me and I’ll get a refund.

Thank you

So, About a week later the door bell rang and this what I got.

It had arrived WOOOOHOOOOO! It’s white BOOOOOOOO!

It had arrive and I got to work setting it up. I did have a problem with connecting to it wirelessly, through the laptop, but that is sorted now. She now presides where the old girl sat. I am happy with what I have and hopefully she will last for the next six to seven years.
