Things I Bought #4
Update on the Keyring Search for My Grandparents
After the failure of trying to find a keyring to remember my grandparents. Whilst coming back from the reception to say goodbye to my granddad in Barnstaple. I turned to Ebay for a result and I found one. A seller by the name of Family-crests. They had a keyring of the Barnstaple coat of arms. That is pretty much what comes to mind when anyone mentions Barnstaple. I think of my grandparents from Devon.
I wanted to get the keyring engraved. So after I went to do my monthly shopping at Tescos. I popped in to the key cutters Timpsons. The bloke there did a pretty good job. I had an engraving of “Joan & Harry Sparks.”
I then realised that I had never done anything for my other grandparents from my mums side of the family. And went on a search for the coat of arms of dagenham.
After thinking about this for a while and talking with the missus. It dawned on me that the coat of arms or Dagenham wasn’t what made me think of them. Then I thought of the only thing I could of that reminded me of them was their home.
When I was younger the front of their house was a little garden with plants climbing everywhere. Also a picket fence. I think it was green. Out back they had really long garden that lead to sheds that held my granddad’s tools and other things and right at the very end a fence that aloud you to see the trains as they sped past. I really loved that old house.
But this lead to another problem I didn’t have any pictures of the home I remembered. So I had to use google maps to get a picture. It’s nowhere near the same, from as it was. But it would have to do. So this is what I chose.
Then I had to find someone to make my keyring. After a while searching the web. I found something that was close to the keyring I had bought on Ebay. A company called Always Personal had what I needed and this is what I purchased:
They also printed on the back so I had written “Dorothy & Edward Wallis”.
Mission accomplished. I know it’s not a massive gesture. But it’s mine.
