The Voice of Batman has Died. R.I.P
Kevin Conroy 30/11/1955 – 10/11/2022
We lost a great man who voiced one of the greatest superheroes of all time.
I would generally leave this until my “In Memorium” at the end of the year. But I felt I needed to do something extra as he was a significant part of my nerdy/geek life.
The Legend
For those who don’t know, Kevin Conroy was an American actor: Spanning a 44-year career, starting in 1978. During that time, he made his career acting on stage and in tv roles. But it wasn’t until 1991 that his career and popularity really took off. When he started his portrayal of the iconic Bruce Wayne/ Batman, probably one of the best animated DC shows at the time. Batman: The Animated Series.
Until his death on 10th November 2022. He had spent 30 years playing the character in animated shows, movies and video games. His gruff voice and stage acting helped him to achieve what myself and many, many fans around the world believe is the truest voice of Batman. And during this duration, he grew from strength to strength.
Additionally, for those interested in his acting career. Here’s a link to his IMDb page.
A great moment of his Batman career was when he got to play a live version of the character. Even though: it was a dark version of the portrayal. I was able to enjoy the face and the voice together.
For those who didn’t know, he had a counterpart. His “nemesis”, you could say. Mark Hamil is otherwise best known for his role as Luke Skywalker in Star Wars. In my eyes: undoubtedly, the voice of the Joker. He has been playing the part as long as Kevin.
Comedy
Whenever able. Kevin was more than happy to make fun of the character. Such as:
Goodbye Kevin. Unquestionably, you are and forever will be the voice of the Dark Knight. And while I know. There have been many different actors that have played the part. But the voice that we will always reach for is yours. You will be missed. But never forgotten.
