The Committal
Part 1 of the final chapter of the dealing with the remains of my father in law. We were up around six, half six. We had to leave at nine. There was no real rush but I wanted to set a time so we could get to the crematorium before ten.
We did have our friend that was going to take us down. But due to injury we had to change plans and had to go down on my motorcycle. The wife wasn’t completely happy because she doesn’t like getting helmet hair.
Apart from that I got out my side panniers, installed them onto Tiffany and we made our way to Upminster crematorium.
Arriving half an hour early we took a quick look at where the plaque was and then went to the office. The wife had to sign some paperwork and that’s when we were told that they couldn’t place some of the ashes in the wifes little heart that she had bought for a keepsake. After we were told originally we could. The secretary had rushed out to get a manager who told us the news. I decided that I would take care of this role and finally we returned to the area of the committal. They also said they would look into replacing the brand new plaque as there is a scratch on it, after informing them.
We stood around for a while and waited for someone to show up.
This was the service. I know the footage isn’t great.
After everything was done the wife and myself got to laying out the new vases and stuff to be placed by the plaque. Her grandparents photo was a bit tricky since we didn’t have any pictures of them together. So I had to try and photoshop something together. I am still fairly new at this. To those who know will see it. Hopefully I got away with it. The wife has tried to weather proof the photos by using nail vanish to seal the ink into the paper. According to Google this does wonders.
We stayed a while and the wife listened to Monty Python’s: Always look on the bright side of life. This was the walk out song from the funeral.
I took some photos of the area that Mick will be resting in, with his parents.
The wife wasn’t feeling amazing and wanted a drink. It wasn’t even midday. So on the way home we stopped off at a local shop. Bought some alcohol and went on home. Whilst trying to get this blog done and the wife not around I managed to get some of the ashes into the heart. The ashes are not what I thought they would be. Whilst trying to fill the little heart. The ashes feel more like rock crumbs and not so fine sand.
Tomorrow we start Part 2 of our adventure.
