The Book Report #103
Episode #102
The Book Club Edition #6
I joined a book club, and this was the book chosen in February 2026.
The Tenant By Freida McFadden

The Book
Poisoned Pen Press, an imprint of Sourcebooks, first published this book on the 5th of June, 2025.
My copy is digital with 348 pages and includes acknowledgements and an afterword if you’d like more information or a newsletter from the author. The first chapter from a story called The Boyfriend, a list of books the author has written and finally, information about the author.
What Did I Think?
The genre rolled for this book was drama.
But this book is more like a psychological thriller/drama.
Which isn’t a bad thing after finding out that there could be thousands of subgenres wrapped in other genres.
Anyway, Blake was having a good life in Manhattan; he had just been promoted to VP, and he was engaged and ready to begin the next step of his life.
Until, out of nowhere, he was fired. He doesn’t know how, but whatever he was accused of, he certainly didn’t do it. But life goes on, and he still has bills to pay.
He finally gets a job at a loss to his previous job, and his fiancé isn’t bringing in enough either, so he is eventually convinced to put an ad out for a tenant to make up the money they need.
They find their new tenant in a young woman named Whitney.
Over time, things slowly get worse as odd things start to go wrong, and Blake believes the tenant, Whitney, is the cause of all the problems, though he doesn’t know why.
The book itself is nicely written. I was engrossed very quickly and wanted to know more as soon as possible. It has been a while since I have read a book like this. The twists and turns of the story lead to an obviously missed answer.
The book is split into three parts and written from the point of view of three of the main characters: Blake and two others. And it just works; there is nothing heavy about the story. Even with everything that happened, it never gets too dark.
Would I Recommend?
I would recommend this book if you fancy something a little bit different but familiar at the same time. This book won’t break any records, but it is a nice mystery and something to gossip about.
Please give this book a go.
