My Life That Happened in #25

Episode #24

… October 2025

Wednesday 1st

A nice day at work. I was on the shop floor, replenishing and started with some gatekeeping. With the start of a new month, I began, while it was quiet, auditing the First Aid boxes. But I had to stop as I was required elsewhere.

It’s been over a year, and after getting lost so many times, I might have worked out the maze of the shop.

The concerns I had about the change of month. Seems to be, at the moment, my mind playing with me. But it’s only the first day; anything can still happen.

When I got home, I finished my after-work routine and finished off this month’s life blog.

Waking up, I found an email from work and told my wife about it. They are after people, and so I helped set up the application. I will need to speak with someone when I return to work and see if I can help with the process.

Thursday 2nd

An easy, almost relaxing day at work. Starting with a little gatekeeping, which led to some experience-gaining counterbalance training. Until I was kicked off, I was then sent out on the reach truck, and from here I moved pallets around the shop floor until it was time to go upstairs to cook.

After lunch, I helped replenish some pallets on the shop floor until I was needed back on a truck to finish my shift.

I spoke to a couple of people about the missus, and they were more than willing to help with a job position. We will see what happens, but it’s down to her now. No pressure.

Ne Ne needed a top-up with some more diesel. Don’t need to go to the pub to waste money when Ne Ne drinks it all.

At home, I relaxed as best as I could. I received a phone call twice; I, of course, ignored it. However, it turns out that Occupational Health would like to discuss my health issues. I will get back to them when I am ready.

Waking up, I missed out on a deal for a watch. When I clicked on the link, the watch was already sold.

Friday 3rd

At work, although the number of deliveries returned to a reasonably normal amount, it was still a stressful experience before lunch. And after everything was done, I was surprised to notice that I was proud of myself for all the work I had done, plus a little extra, with three minutes to spare before I could go home.

A colleague brought in some spare uniform accessories I had been after. I now have extra pockets for my trousers.

There was an instance where I could have been cooking, but the information was wrong, so I returned to gatekeeping straight after.

I was even able to gain some more training on the counterbalance inside a trailer and in the yard. So that was fun.

I’m not one hundred per cent sure, but I might be ill. I have the symptoms of a cold or flu. But no side effects. Some shortness of breath while I was doing my mobility exercise before work. Plus an increase in sneezing.

Nothing much else.

At home, I waited for my parcels to arrive. First to arrive was my new watch, which I thought I had screwed up, only to find it was the plastic protector covering the screen. And my new watch box. For the price, I am impressed.

I did go to bed a little later than usual, as it was my day off. But this gave me time to finish my latest read. It took me long enough!

I have also been window shopping for a new flask for work. I need something that can keep my tea hot for up to 4 hours between breaks.

Saturday 4th

I was up just before midnight, and I found my wife in the office playing Animal Crossing. She chatted about her day until she went to bed. I made some sandwiches, sat down and finished season 3 of Squid Game.

After finishing some blog updates, I also searched for a new travel mug. I took a nap.

A few hours later, we were up and having something to eat. The missus beforehand mingled with her plants and then finally sat down to some food.

I needed to get some things started and finished. So I headed into the office, and the wife followed a little while later to play her Animal Crossing. After a while, I stressed myself out by trying to do too many things at once. And with my wife talking about her game. I had to leave the office for a while and settle my headache.

I managed to write the blog for my latest read and was able to relax my head.

The missus cooked dinner while I finished off my latest video, and I worked out what I was going to do next. I ended up watching a film and didn’t realise it would be so artsy. I didn’t like it.

Sunday 5th

I woke up early, and after some doomscrolling, started getting things ready for work. Meanwhile, the wife went about her normal routine when she eventually woke up.

I later went to bed to read my latest book before falling asleep. The only problem was that it was so cold that my feet would not warm up. I had to wear my thick socks to kick-start the heating process, but even they eventually became uncomfortable.

Waking up in the evening to find out that the missus has a telephone interview at my workplace, and also has an interview with one of my managers. In my eyes, she has a good chance.

She has also filled up the bag I am going to donate with books for the free library at work. Mine are the books I didn’t like. I will take them in when I have my book club.

Monday 6th

It was busy on the loading bay today, but my job was replenishing on the shop floor. Help arrived near the end, and because of this, I was able to complete my first aid duties for the month.

Getting home, I completed my weekly upload and sharing of my latest video. I also placed an advertisement on my social media for my company that was hiring. I have had no takers, so far.

A message from work from the book club asking for suggestions for the next book. So I sent photos from my office of my to-be-read books.

The wife had to apply to the government to receive some back pay and redundancy. There was a cock up after submitting, but it was sorted out after a quick phone call. I ended up going to bed late while trying to work this all out.

I woke up to an email sent to my wife from my company stating that she hadn’t been accepted for the role. Even though she has an interview planned for tomorrow, I will have to speak to someone when I go to work. Did I do something wrong? This is bugging me a bit. Maybe there has been a communication problem.

I have also had an update from the book club. Two of my books have been taken on board, of the four they have on the list. I will find out tomorrow what they are.

Tuesday 7th

What is with all the foxes? As I drove to work, foxes were everywhere. Is there a new uprising nobody told us about?

Work was nice. There was plenty of work on the gatekeeping side, but it wasn’t stressful. It just flowed nicely. The only downside was that I was rushed at the very last minute, and I missed a couple of things that could be fixed on the next shift.

When I got home, I went through my routine and also ordered a quick delivery from Tesco. And then went back to work for this month’s Book Club. I had brought some of our books to donate to the free library. I brought in the books I didn’t like and a book I had an extra of, and the wife got rid of a load of books she thought were taking up space on her shelf.

The meeting went really well. We discussed the book we had read. It was a generally nice and relaxing experience, and now I am counting the days for the next meeting. We only have to wait and find out what everyone votes for next.

I got home and got ready to go to bed after eating, and my missus waited for her job interview to call.

Waking up, I asked how it went. Even if she doesn’t get the position, the interview was a success. It seemed to have gone well.

Wednesday 8th

I was on the shop floor this morning. There wasn’t as much to do as there normally was, but I was unable to do some of it, as some of the aisles were blocked off. Which normally happens.

I thanked one of the managers who took the wife’s interview. Whether she got the job or not, she was in the mindset that she could walk away happy with experience.

I was involved in an incident between two co-workers. Left in the middle, I saw they were both at fault; it’s just annoying that I have to be the sensible one.

Before coming home, I had to drop off something for my brother, and then I was free to return to rest. It was also my day off.

It was also time to pick a new book as I went to bed and finished my latest read.

There is no update from the Book Club on the next book voted on yet.

Thursday 9th

After a few hours of YouTube, and the most recent episode with Jenny and Nicky, I cooked and prepared my meals for work for the next couple of days and caught up wth my blogs.

I have chosen my latest read and will begin it later. My Goodreads has been updated.

The wife had another interview. She still hasn’t heard from my place yet. But I told her to wait a little longer. I dropped her off at Lakeside. The missus is meeting up with a friend after the interview. She is a tad early, but she doesn’t want to take the bus. Passenger Princess!

The new book has been chosen for the Book Club: The Book Club by C. J. Cooper. I will get to reading it after I finish the book I have just started.

Friday 10th

It turns out the missus was right and I hadn’t sorted out my head. I was on the shop floor, and I was able to blast some music out as I worked, but there was a niggling in my head that I couldn’t reach. This is where music therapy comes in to help, but this time it wasn’t rage music I was after; it was the feeling and atmosphere of a concert and the need to sing along with the songs I enjoyed.

So I called on the help of the live album from Volbeat that I had on my MP3 player and went through an emotional ride. By the end of it all, I was mentally fatigued. And I was also glad I was left alone to an extent to sort this out as much as I could by myself.

Even a neighbour was enjoying the concert vibes.

Saturday 11th

A nice, easy night on the shop floor. Things are slowing down due to construction happening tomorrow night. It has become a thing: every day, someone asks if I will be cooking. But I have to let them down when I am not on duty that day. However, we now have to wait and see whether someone has arrived or called in sick.

Until then, the next time I cook is on the 26th.

My new mug arrived in the post and I wasn’t happy. However, I must give them their due. The customer service sent me a refund straight away. It wasn’t that expensive, but now I have a mug that I didn’t want. I am wondering if there is a decal I can put on it that can be washed?

Apparently, waterproof stickers are the answer.

Before work, I managed to create my next video and start uploading for Monday.

Sunday 12th

Another quiet day at work that turned into being overloaded with stock from the reserves to the shop floor. Clearing the build-up that we haven’t been able to get to due to having too much stock sent to our store.

I also got my nights mixed up, believing work on the roof had started, it was the right day. But the wrong time of day.

Coming back from break, I was pulled over to one side by a manager, and I was secretly told about something that could benefit me. I was encouraged to look into more, and if I like it, I may put myself forward for it.

Getting home and sorting myself out, I rested and watched some wrestling before going back out again. The wife had a parcel to send off, and we then popped to Costco.

We were constantly being watched.

Spending Too Much

The place was rammed. People everywhere. Not caring and trying to push past you without touching you. The trolleys helped a little, as they are so big.

I started to understand a bit more about how Costco charges for its items. But at the same time, I still think it’s a stupid practice. I don’t understand how having the two separate prices shown helps in any way. But I think they should stick to one price and that’s it.

Well, after some research. My thinking was off. After I started to question the pricing at Costco, Google told me that the price before VAT is for business owners who can claim a tax break. The total after VAT is for casual customers who don’t have a business. However, if you look around, some of the prices do not come with VAT. That’s how you can get a deal on items.

Also, bring a calculator with you so you can calculate the individual prices of the bulk items and compare them with your local supermarket.

We did come away with some bargains, but I spent way too much money on the amount we got.

Back home, we put everything away, and I finished watching the wrestling, and then went to bed. It was later than expected, but we left Costco after a long walk around.

Monday 13th

I don’t feel well. I suspect food poisoning. I’m not completely sure, but I think it may have been that cake from Costco. It was too rich, and my gut is now paying for it.

Spending most of the night in pain and wondering how there could be more. I made myself take a nap, and that helped a lot.

I hadn’t completed uploading my latest video to all my social media sites. About an hour and a half after my usual deadline. I went into the office and finished what needed to be done.

Next, I had to find out online what I could eat for my lunch. For work, I would only prepare a day’s worth of food and see how that goes.

Waking up for work, I was feeling okay, but my stomach was sore.

For some reason, the wrestling had been released early, so after I got ready, I watched a portion of it before work.

Arriving at work, I had to park Ne Ne in the customer car park as the employee car park was blocked off. They were still working on the roof.

Tuesday 14th

Work began, and about an hour into the shift, I realised I had forgotten to swipe in. Mainly because I had to go through a different entrance, and it was nowhere near the clocking machine. So my head was out of sync.

My stomach pangs continued, and I made sure the manager was aware of this when we were discussing the shortage of work, asking if there was a chance of an early finish to let me know.

I had never gone mad over my meals before, but for some reason, the boiled potatoes were delicious. There was nothing special about them. Just plain boiled potato. So why did they taste so good?

I changed where I ate today, sitting outside on the garden benches. There were no mosquitoes or gnats around to use me as a blood bank. As the blocked entrance was opened up, I collected Ne Ne and brought her back into the employee car park. From here, I could bring in the items I bought for my brother in security.

I returned from lunch, finished my work and spoke to someone about what I could do next. An option to go home came up, and I took it.

Waking Up

Getting up for work, there was another problem. A residual component caused by my food poisoning and something from my past issues, which made me decide that I couldn’t go into work.

So I contacted work and sent an email confirming everything and asking a favour at the same time.

During a job search at my company, I found a couple of additional positions that my wife could consider and that might be a better fit for her. We were under the impression that the missus didn’t get the previous attempt. But I did try, with an email to get an update.

I may have also found the item my manager spoke about. I will need to double-check with him later.

Wednesday 15th

I didn’t go back to bed. I relaxed and healed as best as I could. As usual, doomscrolling and watching an episode of something I like the look of.

Later, I wrote a little and decided to update my CV, just in case.

I thought I would be okay as I woke up. It all began while I sat in the office: The stomach cramps. There was nothing I could do but live with the pain. In the end, the wife filled up a hot water bottle, and I went back to bed and relaxed as best as I could. But not before calling in sick again.

Thursday 16th

The wife made up another water bottle as I moved into the front room. She went to bed, and I relaxed while working out why YouTube was having problems.

After many hours of waiting for the hot water bottle to cool slowly, I walked back into my office and created my next video and wrote more of my blogs.

Waking up, I am not 100% but better. So I decided to go back tonight.

While I was sorting myself out, I finished uploading my latest video, which will be released on Monday.

Friday 17th

Starting my shift back at work, the managers were happy to see me. This is still a surprise to me. My job for the night was gatekeeping, and there was a lot of work to do. Thankfully, we had plenty of counterbalance drivers who could tip the trailers as they came in. We did well, and the trailers were all tipped with time to spare, except for one that didn’t show up while I was there.

Even with a winey, bitchy driver trying to act bigger than his boots, I didn’t care. I wasn’t going to let anything spoil the work we had done. And I think he noticed.

At home, the wife’s depression isn’t getting better. I know she needs to get out of the house, but she believes she only needs a job, and then we got some bad news. My company rejected her application for all three jobs I put her forward for. I had some ideas, and I was a little pissed. So I reapplied for those jobs again using a different email address and altered her CV, and we’ll see what happens.

I eventually went to bed a bit overtired, and my wife told me that my snoring was bad.

Saturday 18th

Sitting in the front room, I doomscrolled on YouTube and had something to eat. I remembered that I had to apply for an internal position that my manager had asked me to apply for. But I also found something else I might also like. And the pay is better as well; it would bring me closer to the money I was earning at my old job.

The job my manager proposed, with the extras I get now, would mean a slight pay cut. But I applied anyway. It is always a good idea to learn something, even if it may lead nowhere.

After a long nap, I continued to relax with the missus while we waited for some shopping to arrive. During this time, I helped the missus set up an Instagram page for the plant clippings she wants to sell. It took a while as I had to learn some things myself, until it was finally done.

The rest of the day was spent eating and resting. I managed to get through most of season 2 of Foundation. It’s not amazing but interesting.

Sunday 19th

Woke up early so I could start meal prepping for the next couple of days, as I am back to work at midnight.

The wife is not well. After some reading, our best guess would be Vertigo. So I sent her back to bed.

I have made a decision, I want to try a Brandon Sanderson book. They are known to be extremely long books, and I need to get out of my comfort zone.

Monday 20th

I had too much work today. Starting with my usual gatekeeping, I eventually headed out to my area and saw I wouldn’t be able to finish everything by myself. The managers thought of this just before we went to lunch, when the next workers turned up, and they sent a colleague over to help. By the second break, we were finished.

I have been informed that there are two other contenders for one of the jobs I have applied for, and they may have a better chance, qualification-wise. I’m not that bothered, but I wish them luck.

I am making a dent in my Book Club book, over two hundred pages. Just over a hundred to go.

At home, while sitting with the missus, scrolling and catching up with BeardMeatsFood. I came across a video about the latest Casio watches on sale from Argos. So I went and had a look and found two I liked, but one was sold out. However, I found it on the official website. I am now the owner of two new watches; I have but to wait for their arrival.

Tuesday 21st

A long night waiting for trailers to arrive and getting them tipped in time. I left in the end with one still being tipped. But the rest of the paperwork was done. However, I may need to make a couple of adjustments tonight; we will see.

The postman delivered one of the watches I ordered, and I am a little disappointed. It’s amazing what lighting can do to an item you are trying to sell. It is still a nice watch. So I will be keeping it.

Wednesday 22nd

It was an easy night with not much to replenish, so I was finished pretty quickly. I moved on to help a coworker, but even he didn’t have much either.

A colleague returned to work after time off from an accident. It was good to see them back.

A FLT driver believed they knew better when I refused to put a pallet out that didn’t need to be put out. So they put it out themselves. And to be an even bigger Dick, they sent me a video of their work.

We all stopped and headed up to the canteen to receive a business update on the company’s current status. This meant I left work a little later than expected, but I found out some information about the new structure of the people and the building. They also put on a free breakfast, so I grabbed some bacon and sausages and made a roll out of it.

My other watch got delivered, and I quite like this one. This was the cheapest of the two, but this one came out better than expected.

After I went to bed to read before sleeping, my wife received the email messages that told her she didn’t get the jobs I reapplied for. I don’t understand. I know it’s one of those things, but I know she is more than qualified for the roles. Hell, she could properly teach them a thing or two.

Thursday 23rd

Waking up late, which was nice. I found out that one of my items was delivered on the 14th. I have no memory of this ever happening, so as it is late, I will have to see what has happened in the morning.

But first, I checked with aliexpress. The order on their end seems to be that my parcel is late in delivery, and they have given me a £1 voucher. Even so, I will still need to speak with Evri in the morning.

So, as it’s my day off, I continued with some doomscrolling and blog updates.

The missus had her first trip out in over a week as we headed to Smith’s garden centre. I wasn’t feeling great and needed to be near a toilet, but we had a good time whilst searching for some new plants. I came away with some cakes and fudge. So I was happy. The wife started with one and came away with a couple of plants and a propagation box.

Getting home, I relaxed and got ready for bed, waiting for the shopping to arrive. I managed to finish the Book Club book and had the task of finding a new book to replace it.

Friday 24th

Work was a mess. I was gatekeeping. Trying to work with other people, but there were too many voices, and I couldn’t get into the flow of things properly. Additionally, there were too many trailers arriving, and we had a difficult time finding places to store the pallets.

I discovered a problem similar to one I live with that a colleague is having. In a message later, I sent them a link to a product that may be of some use. It was one of those things that is normally private and could be embarrassing. It felt strange to talk about it with someone other than my wife. And advise them at the same time. But I am glad I could help.

My stomach cramps have come back. I think I ate something my body wasn’t ready for yet.

Evri emailed me about my parcel. I hope it doesn’t go on for too long, and a solution is made. It’s supposed to be a Christmas present.

Saturday 25th

It was a nice, easy night. I was left alone to get on with what I needed to do, and it went smoothly enough.

I did find out that someone was going to dob me in for something I knew nothing about. But someone else stepped in and shut that down. Mainly because if they went through with the complaint, they would be in more trouble for not following the rules they were supposed to follow.

I have been looking at why the missus isn’t getting a look-in at my company. And it has to do with how their system works. So I need to learn how to get around it. It shouldn’t be that hard, but I have also read that the system is flawed, and I have to be neither quite human and not quite AI. Because too far in either direction, and the system can’t handle it.

Waking up I made appointments for us both for the opticians on thursday morning.

Sunday 26th

The clocks went back today, so we had to make adjustments to our daily routines. Nothing really changed, but we had to use our brains to figure out when we should do things. It didn’t affect anyone coming in after 2 am. But I had to cook and serve food at 3 am instead of 4 am, while the person who would have normally cooked at three wondered why I was cooking.

The food didn’t come out the way I wanted it, but everyone seemed happy enough.

The shift went smoothly as management wasn’t about to interfere. And by the time we left, everything was nearly done.

Today was also the start of my holiday. A week off to do whatever I want. I have no plans apart from the opticians, but I am sure we can think of something.

I had an email about my lost parcel. They suggested I should speak to Aliexpress and see what they can do on their end. So I did and was able to get a refund. I then went back online and bought a similar item from Amazon.

In preparation, we have been searching through the back catalogue of Specsavers and choosing the frames we would like to try on. To make sure we pick what we prefer and we don’t miss anything, we will go through it a few times over the next few days.

Monday 27th

I was late finishing my latest video, so I went to work creating and uploading before my deadline, which is 6 am.

Today is officially my first day of my holiday, and I am going to try to catch up on some things that need sorting out. I just have to remember what those things are.

Finishing off my video and continuing to update my blogs. I am also making plans with the missus to cheer her up by going to a garden centre we haven’t been to yet.

So I had a nap and waited for the day to begin.

Not much happened today, and spent the day relaxing, well, I tried to relax, while my wife continued her everlasting lecture about her plants.

We made the decision on which plant shop we wanted to visit tomorrow and created a list of possible frames for our appointment at Specsavers on Thursday.

Tuesday 28th

We got out a bit later than expected, but we made good time arriving at the Garden centre the wife wanted to visit. Compared to the garden centre we visited in May, this centre felt smaller. We didn’t explore as much as we did in the previous centre, but it still has a fair amount of goods to please most people. The section we came to visit, although set nicely, didn’t have many plants on offer. The missus did find some items she needed and a couple of new plants she may not have, but bought anyway.

This also gave Ne Ne a chance to have a good run out, as I noticed the white fumes coming out the back. But after a while, it cleared out all the rubbish and ran clean.

Heading back, we had to replenish some provisions, so we popped into the shops.

At home, I slowly became ill, and a tension headache started. So, I had some food and a drink, but then I also got a headache, which I believe was caused by the cold. So, I put on my Slytherin bobble hat when these problems arose and went to bed.

But before that, I managed to finish and upload my latest Book Report.

Wednesday 29th

I awoke early in the morning to the wife not in bed. I knew why, but eventually got up and found my wife in the front room, wondering about. So I sent her to bed. I had been snoring. So she slept on the sofa, which had caused her some shoulder pain.

I napped on the sofa until I had had enough and was about to continue with my blog. I had worked myself up to doing, writing in my head, when the wife walked in, stating she couldn’t sleep, so that went out the window.

We cooked some breakfast, and the wife pottered about until she felt she had done enough and went back to bed.

I finished off my list by reviewing the frames one more time for our appointment tomorrow and then printing them off. Making it easier for the salespeople to find what we like the look of.

Thursday 30th

I woke up early this morning, too early, but it didn’t matter as I waited to get ready for our appointment.

They have put up the Christmas decorations at Lakeside. I only noticed when I saw that they had lifted a car into the air. We were there a few minutes early, so we waited for them to open.

We had our tests, and I have to go back next year. They have spotted a couple of minor issues. Although I had them a couple of years ago, they haven’t changed, but they want to keep an eye on them.

The optometrist wanted me to do a peripheral test, and that came out fine.

I needed to ask to add bifocals as I have a problem focusing when shifting between things farther away and close-up. I end up lifting or removing my glasses to see objects or read near my face.

Spending a stupid amount of money again, we had a walk around the shopping centre before heading home.

Getting home, I became mentally tired. All of the interactions and concentration caught up with me. And so we had some food and rested while binge-watching season two of Wednesday.

Friday 31st

Happy Halloween! I am surprised I had a full night’s sleep—first time in a long time. Leaving my wife in bed, I updated my blog. I have the urge to go to the beach. We can’t really go today as the wife has things she needs to do. Maybe tomorrow.

The wife woke up with a headache and had to cancel her meeting, which is now rescheduled for next week. I started window shopping online and, after a few hours with the missus, came away with too many new hats.

Then I had to create my next video and started uploading them while updating the blog, while the missus went and played Animal Crossing.

The wife stayed up to watch a couple of horrors. I was too tired, so I went to bed.

Thanks for stopping by and checking up on me. See ya next Month!
