My Life That Happened In… #2
Episode #1
… November 2023
Where’s My Stuff?
So, as of writing this. I am waiting for some parcels to arrive. When I checked the website to track my items, all there was was an “Unable to attempt delivery.”
Calling them: The answer I received was they are short of staff. And until they have staff available or another postman can deliver, I will have to wait. I can’t even go and pick it up myself. So I have to wait for a red card in my postbox.
I am not sure they are telling the truth. But I will wait a little longer.
Getting Out Of The House
I had been resting my knee at home, being unable to work.
A couple of days later. I went over to my brothers for a once-in-a-blue-moon visit. It had been arranged for us to visit IKEA. He wanted to renovate his flat but didn’t know what he really wanted. So it was decided I would take him for a walk around for some ideas. Yes, I know he could have looked online. But for some reason, which is his alone. He doesn’t have the internet at home.
I first had to stop at the local supermarket for some provisions, and then we went to the Big Blue Bus for something to eat. The Big Blue Bus is a double-decker bus that serves food and drinks 24/7. It has been around for a very long time and does some good food. I have been going there every since it used to be a shed in the local Halfords carpark until it moved to near the now EVRI distribution centre. It was my brother’s first visit. I think he liked the food the way he noshed it down.
Anyway, after dropping the provisions at home. I dropped my brother at IKEA, rushed over to pick the wife up from work and headed back to IKEA. We spent just over an hour walking around, glancing at what they had to offer. And the wife, finding new things for me to spend my money on.
Until we got to where I wanted to go and what would give a boost to the wife. New plants. We spent some time perusing. We came out of there with a decent selection of plants, keeping the wife happy and busy for a while.
UPDATE:
It looks like I was wrong. On the date I started writing this blog, my parcels have arrived. It’s like they knew I was writing this.
The Sickness
This month has been a bit rough for me, dealing with my health. I ended October with the start of a common cold. But then led to what feels like, although I never got it checked out, having Covid again.
At the time of writing this part of the blog. My breathing capacity is restricted, and I have had to spend more time at home, not feeling safe to work.
It did turn out it wasn’t Covid. Although still unsure what it was.
I Have Another Update
In August, I blogged about whether it was possible to improve your eyesight. Well, the results are in, and they aren’t great, more like 50/50.
It turns out that while my left eye did improve, even though it doesn’t look like it. But my right eye got worse. I have no idea what this means. As I thought I was treating both the same. Maybe it’s a physiological thing. I was focused on my left due to the eye strains I get. I don’t know. But I will try again later down the road.
So, in the end, it’s a sort of win.
But in the meantime, I get to enjoy some new glasses. And experiment with some new tints.
Oooh! Look A New Hat!
An Early Start to Christmas
The wife is making up for last Christmas. I am not forcing the issue. I think she needs it. We have altered from the tree we usually have. Which normally has been a fibre optic tree. This year-round, we are working with a black tree, giving her goth side some freedom. We even have a black Halloween wreath for our front door this year.
We are also wrapping our presents in black paper with a silver bow. I am just happy that this will make her happy.
I have been searching, and I believe I have finished my gift purchases for the wife. Now I am waiting for everything to arrive.
I Built Something
It was nothing extraordinary, but I am rather proud of it. I had been searching for a small lamp. So I could read in bed. After our recent trip to Ikea, I couldn’t work out what I wanted.
A bit later, I remembered my wife had bought me a USB light. Although I had never found a use for it.
What was required was a cord long enough to connect to my USB plug socket. And also have a switch, to turn it on and off, when needed. So, off to Aliexpress, I went in pursuit of what I needed. I found this:
When it finally arrived, I worked out how to attach it to the bed using some old 3M stickers. I have them in a box for the camera I’ve put on my helmet. I set it on the back of my corner bedpost. And it works perfectly. Fair enough, it now looks like an antennae is sticking out of the bed. But that’s okay. It does its job well.
Depressed Again
I had been having problems with work, and it was bringing me down. I had to go out. But I was happy to do this chore. My new glasses were ready. Or so I thought.
At the same time, I was going out. The wife was going to work. So, I joined her on the bus journey. Arriving, she headed to her workplace, and I headed to Specsavers. It turns out my glasses weren’t ready. The assistant asked me to come back in about fifteen minutes.
So, I wandered around the shops and started to have an itching to buy a new book. We had come a little early, and not all the shops were open yet. After a while of window shopping for a new book and popping into Superdrugs. I headed back to Specsavers, where I found out one pair of my glasses wasn’t to the specs I had requested. They weren’t happy about it. So I allowed them to be annoyed on my behalf, and they said they would try and get them sorted. But I would have to return in maybe a week again.
I was okay with it as they were my new work glasses. The second pair were fine. The third pair were for when my eye strain started up. These were tinted. After going away with them, I had to return them the next day as they were tinted too much and had them reduced.
More shopping
After finishing with Specsavers, I walked towards my wife’s job and showed off my new look. She liked them.
I had an incline for a bacon roll, so I headed towards Greggs.
But before Greggs, I still had an itch for a new book. I headed to Waterstones. Walking around for a while, I saw several books I liked the look of. But I chose two and intended to get another at a later date.
I ate my bacon roll. I began drinking my Dr Pepper as I walked towards Tesco for some supplies. Afterwards, I got the bus back. I took the bus that went the long way around. I started reading Days at the Morisaki Bookshop, written by Satoshi Yagisawa. And I am engrossed.
Oh No! Not More Hats!
I’ll see you next month!
