My Life That Happened In… #15

Episode #14

… December 2024

Sunday 1st

I did it again! I found another typo in another book. Mark Lawrence’s The Book That Broke the World. So I sent him a message on Instagram.

Monday 2nd

I got a reply.

Tuesday 3rd

I received this yesterday but I am opening it today. I have been waiting for this to arrive since August. It’s a San Diego Comic-Con Exclusive. I didn’t think it would be as big as it is, but I am happy.

For those who don’t know. This is Death’s head, my favourite Marvel character. Created originally for Transformers back in the 80s, he transitioned over with the help of Doctor Who (Seventh). A Freelance Peacekeeping Agent, who doesn’t like being called a bounty hunter. He was born of science and ancient magicks.

I managed to find them on a site called Props & Replicas. I was a little concerned about the site as I had never seen them before, but they answered my emails and convinced me that everything would be okay—so much so that I bought something for my wife for Christmas. SShhh!

I have even wrapped her presents. Well, the ones that have arrived already. I’m still waiting on a few more.

Thursday 5th

My brother called and I had to hide from the missus. He wanted me to order her Christmas presents online for him as he doesn’t have internet at home.

Monday 9th

I attended a meeting with a lady who helps run Health & Safety and other things, including First Aid roles in the workplace. She wanted to know if I was able to extend my current duties to include First Aid auditing. Once a month I will check and audit the first aid boxes. Topping them up as needed. I said it shouldn’t be a problem and it sounded easy enough. The only problem I would have was navigating to certain areas in the warehouse. I haven’t learned where everything was yet. This is due to only needing to go to certain areas for my work.

Tuesday 10th

The wife wanted me to pick her up from work. I had already started reading A Christmas Carol but I wanted to read a book that Christmas was laced into it. So just before I was due I drove down to Lakeside and went to Waterstone to see what I could find. The wife eventually met up with me and we spent some more time wondering until I decided on a couple of books.

Hopefully, they will do the trick.

I was looking for something more horror-themed, but these will have to do.

Friday 13th

This morning at work we had a Christmas breakfast. I must say they do make a big thing out of these celebrations. Everyone stopped work for about an hour. Even some ex-staff turned up. I did think that was a bit weird, although I was impressed with it all. The breakfast was just a full English with some extras. Meh! Myself and the people I worked with were sitting in the back, so we had a hard time hearing what was being said, even with the Mic. But because they gave out presents to everyone I saved some money on a present the wife wanted. They gave everyone a weighted blanket.

Saturday 14th

I tried out the new job at work. It is an easy job and I made it easier by starting the areas I know. I wasn’t able to finish it all but it was a good start.

Sunday 15th

I continued with the extra duties. Today it happened. I got lost and went around in a circle. But I know better now and I should be good from now on.

Monday 16th

I don’t know why. But I had an urge; to deliver my brother his and his missus presents early. We exchanged presents, at work, not realising he had sent me a message through Facebook messenger the day before asking to change gifts.

Saturday 21st

My brother would be staying over at my sister’s for Christmas so we decided I should bring them over early. I popped over; after taking the wife to work and this is where we exchanged gifts. I had bought him a Nintendo 3DS XL. It came with a few games and the wife added a case. As he didn’t wrap his presents, I saw, straight away, what he had got me.

I have just realised the one on the left is broken.

The book was a last-minute gift as I had just read A Christmas Carol. The DVD is a film I loved when I was a kid. The Teabags collection was out of date. I am unsure about the bag. It is a crossbody leather messenger bag. But those Star Trek scenes look cool.

After staying for about an hour I had to head out as I had a dentist appointment. This was to update him about my mouthguard. There was no change so there wasn’t much to say. It didn’t help that he didn’t educate himself properly on the difference between nasal and throat snoring.

Going home I had to come out again as we had to do a little bit of shopping. So I picked up the wife, from work, and spent the next hour topping up on what we needed.

Sunday 22nd

It is booked my birthday holiday away has been confirmed and all we have to do now is wait. I want to go now!

Tuesday 24th

I began work at midnight and we were able to finish work early, due to all the work being done. We were waiting on a trailer, but that didn’t arrive in time. I went home and went to bed for a couple of hours.

The wife wasn’t sure if she was able to go out. So I left her alone until she made her decision. We had two stops today and just thinking about going out made my head go a bit funny. And it took a while to calm down again.

The first stop is the crematorium. We popped in to say hello to Mick, the wife had brought some flowers. It didn’t look like it but the place was busy.

When it was time we went over to my sisters to exchange gifts. We had a catch-up and talked about our problems and how we were dealing with them.

We then headed back home and relaxed for the rest of the day.

This is the first time I haven’t published The Book Report mainly because I haven’t finished reading my book. I am hoping I can release one next week.

Wednesday 25th

It’s Christmas and I don’t feel like it. Nor does the missus. She is normally straight in there for the presents but today it’s breakfast first. We relaxed and rested with a cup of tea and some food. I’ve been up since just after five am because I went to bed early, the previous night.

So what did we get?

From my brother, I work with:

For the missus, she received an Animal Crossing wall or desk light. I received the start of my new Blu-ray collection a Doctor Who Boxset.

What did I give him and his wife?

For him a new X-box controller with a toiletry set. For her a Foyles book gift card with enough money to buy a few books.

From my Sister:

To add to our collections: The Missus got some more Cradle of Filth CDs and I added some new Star Trek Blu-rays.

For my sister: I bought a load of books by James Patterson. She sent me a list. For my nephew, I gave him a couple of X-box top-up cards. And both received a toiletry set. And not forgetting my sister got a Betty Boop purse.

From my brother, my wife was presented with:

The complete Bluray Saw collection. But in German, because we couldn’t find a UK version. And some Animal Crossing Lego sets.

From me for The Wife:

A talking Terrifier doll; Which I still find a bit weird as Art the Clown doesn’t speak. And a popcorn bucket Universal Studio Horror Night Chucky doll. His eyes light up.

I also bought a whole load of plant hanging baskets and a couple of propagation kits to help with her plants.

The wife bought herself:

A new Switch game, Beetlejuice 2 Bluray and The Nun Loungefly backpack.

So what did I get?

To start I receive more Doctor Who Blurays for my new collection.

This is a rare collection of a set of Death’s Head II series. This is the first four-issue set of the new character, from the 90s.

More books to my TBR collection.

After the opening of presents, the wife wanted to watch one of her movies and I wanted to update the blog. So that’s what we did. The wife ended up watching a couple of Saw films and I spent some of my time on my blog whilst talking to an old workmate, helping him, with his search for a job.

Later we had a Christmas roast and watched Doctor Who. And then, we waited for Gavin and Stacy until finally we felt it was time for bed.

Thursday 26th

Not much to do today but get things ready for work. I wrote, a little more of this blog and had a clear out of the unused and unwanted stuff stored on this website.

Friday 27th

Back to work.

Saturday 28th

After finishing work for the day, I picked up the wife and took her to work. I was feeling peckish and fancied some Greggs sausage rolls. As we left I was glad Waterstones was closed because I was tempted. Then I turned around and hey, look it’s open. So, we had a look around and I behaved myself and didn’t buy a book. I said goodbye to the missus and rushed home to gorge on my Greggs food.

Sunday 29th

There’s a problem with my phone. A massive drain on the battery needs to be investigated.

Monday 30th

It turns out, it’s the company’s apps that are draining the phone. I believe they are trying to constantly access the phone, and the phone cannot handle it. I will need to delete access and try sticking to the browser to view work items. It seems to be okay for now.

Tuesday 31st

Finished my final shift of the year. I am knackered. Time for some rest.

I am proud of myself. This year I beat my book target on Goodreads. I had put myself down for twenty books to read for the year.

Signing off for 2024. I hope you get everything you need for the coming year and have a Happy new one!
