I Am A little Disappointed

My Visit To Specsavers… A Little Review

So it was time again, after a few years. I had to get my eyes tested and maybe buy some new glasses. I had a feeling it was going to cost a little more than usual. So I started off by saving for a few months before hand, to cover everything, just incase.

Next, I went on to their website and started going through the frames they had, picking my favorites. I would print this off later, when it was time to go. As the wife would be coming along after she had finished work. I booked our slots together, so we could meet up at the shop.

Nearly ever since I started making my own money I have been using Specsavers. That’s about twenty-five years now. Starting at Walthamstow. And at present, Lakeside. Apart from a bad experience with the wife at the Grays branch. I have enjoyed going. I am always treated well and never have any problems.

The day finally came and I made my way over to the store and as I was a little early I had a quick butchers at some of frames I had picked out online.

So, here’s the thing. I have a big head. Larger than your average person. So frames are awkward to find, that fit my head properly. Without digging into the sides of my head. So being surprised that none of the frames fit my head properly. I wasn’t.

So, I decided on buying a new pair of frames I already had and reusing an old pair for new lenses.

Before going to the optometrist I had to get eyes tested using machines to scan my eyes.

I had to get in contact with Specsavers with the freedom of information act. So they could send me copies of the images below. I have no idea what the images mean, but they are a look in to the eyes, that is me. Freaky but cool. The OCT scan I had, supposedly, can create a 3-D image of my eye and see if I have any problems that are going to happen down the line. About up to four years from now. All I had to do was sit still and let them do their thing. I did mess this up abit and had to have a redo. The OCT scan is a “new” technology they had introduced and came with a £10 fee.

So I finished my scans and waited to see the optometrist, to get a new prescription. Now when I went in I had a specific problem that needed dealing with. Over the past year, whilst at work, the lights are really bright and have recently been screwing with my eyes. Getting to the point that my eyes are in actual pain. Now this is where I get disappointed. I asked them for help with this and… nothing. I explained myself and asked if they can help with tinted glasses and still nothing. They seemed to be more interested in myself buying varifocals. Even though I would have been fine with bifocals. I was told bifocals was for old people and varifocals would suit my needs better.

The thing is, this didn’t click in my head until I was outside in the main shop and sorting out my new glasses and lenses. I was shown the different types of varifocals and had no real choice to buy the best ones they had. So, that’s what I did. The lenses for my outside glasses cost the most at around £175. I was going to reuse my old outside frames as I couldn’t anything to fit or suit me. I would also be adding reactions on top of my lenses. The other frames were the same as my old ones. I would be use them indoors, at home. But just incase I had reactions added to them aswell. In total I spent £456 with Specsavers. Luckily I saved a bit.

This is where I felt a slight kick. I also spoke to the person who was helping me with my glasses about anything I could use to help. He did mention that they didn’t have anything available. But we can talk about this later as he could try some other avenues. So I paid for everything. Asked again. Was told we can sort this out when I came to collect my glasses. That was the moment of the kick. He didn’t look at me when he said it. But I knew straight away that that was a lie. He had made his sale and I was to go. He may of not meant to make it look that way. But that was the outcome of it all.

Specsavers as a hole are a good company. Otherwise I would never use them. It’s just on these occasions. The way I felt afterwards I did feel abit used.

That’s moan No.2 dealt with.
