My Life That Happened In… #13
Episode #12
… October 2024
Tuesday 1st
I had a response to my review for Laptops Direct. Have a look:
Thursday 3rd
Going to work this morning I received my new bag, full of first aid gear to help those who need it. This is a hell of a lot better than whatever previous job had. Fair enough their first aid room is bigger but ours is crammed with more stock.
Decisions
After some umming and ahhing, I finally decided to buy my laptop. I purchased my new laptop through Mesh Computers, as they were cheaper than everybody else. And so I am taking advantage of the price by also buying a wireless mouse.
I also booked in AutoGlass to repair a chip in my windscreen.
Update: This is unbelievable. My laptop is coming tomorrow. That’s a hell of a lot better than waiting forty days and still not having anything.
Friday 4th
Today I am going to fix a few things with the car. I have to admit I am quite proud of myself. Having managed to replace: the rear passenger light, which had a large crack—my fault. I had fun fixing the driver’s window switches. The one I ordered was the wrong shape. So I took it apart and placed the part I needed into the original switch control. Then I lost the clip that holds it in place. I tried replacing it with the one I bought. It hasn’t worked properly. But it will do for now.
I then installed my Dash Cam from the previous car. That was easy enough, apart from the sticky part that didn’t want to stick. Hopefully, I have done what I can with that. I then installed blind spot mirrors for my side mirrors. I have one more thing to do for now. But I am resting for a little while.
I have also found a surface chip in my windscreen, so there are two chips now. Auto glass is only coming for one. I will properly buy one of those little bottles that fixes chips and cracks.
I have received a text from my laptop deliverers and Auto Glass telling me when to expect them.
AutoGlass Arrives
The young lady, called Holly, arrived to repair the windscreen. She seems nice and professional.
I was wondering about replacing the wipers and she offered two for one so I said okay. She also informed me that her work could destroy the windscreen. So that’s nice!
I left her, with my car and now I am waiting for the laptop to arrive.
Holly has done an amazing job. Even though I can still see it, it’s clean. And she removed the paint the dealer left on there. Even that tiny surface chip is sorted. She didn’t need to do it.
The laptop has arrived. I am not as excited as I thought I would be. There is nothing wrong with it, but my enthusiasm has disappeared. I will spend the next few days setting it up for my needs.
Wednesday 9th
I went to bed early the previous night and woke up early this morning. I waited for my wife to get up for work, as I relaxed in front of the telly. When she was up, we had breakfast together and I headed to the “office” to “get some work done.” I didn’t do much, but I did manage to book a detailed cleaning session for my car. They are coming on Saturday. Finally, those seats will be clean.
When she was ready I took her to work and we had a second breakfast from Greggs and we relaxed and ate in the shopping centre. The wife still had some time left so we headed into Waterstones.
After we walked around for about half an hour, I bought myself a book and the Missus one, too. Although I may read her one later, it does look interesting—well, the cover does look amazing.
I also felt a little peeved that a book I bought a couple of weeks ago has now brought out a hardback copy. Think this was a bit backwards, but… I don’t know.
At home, I had things to do. So I binge-watched the final season of The Umbrella Academy. It wasn’t too bad.
I think it’s A little too Big
Something I bought for the car has arrived I think it might be a bit too big. I haven’t installed it yet I might wait until after the deep clean on Saturday. I also bought some new door decals and some LED bulbs for the interior lights.
Friday 11th
I may have found a position for the wife at my workplace. I have sent in a copy of her CV and used Grammarly to AI generate a cover letter. If you want to use this app: Be warned to check through it several times to make sure it is what you want, edited if necessary. I was also looking for some extra hours, at work, and found something that may work for me.
So, I applied and sent an email, to all of my managers to let them know.
Saturday 12th
I spoke to one of the managers I wrote the email to. We discussed what was happening and it is a case that I can have extra hours when overtime is available and when it isn’t I can work in another area, the area I was applying for. So I am happy with the outcome.
From tomorrow. I start a little earlier.
The Car
Car Fresh is sending over someone to clean the car. I arrive home from work and wait for them to arrive. An hour later, I meet them and they get to work.
I am not completely happy with the results as they missed a few simple things but he got the majority done. So I suppose I am pleased with that.
Now, I should officially show you my new car. I did show a picture but not a walk around. She has been officially named by the Missus. Ne Ne. I do not know why. She doesn’t know either but here she is: Ne Ne.
At the moment. After spending some time with her I am enjoying the new experience of not having to worry, about gears. They are there but I don’t need to use them as she is a semi-automatic.
There are a few things I want to add to her and improve. I also told my wife that she could design her seating area.
After the cleaner left, I thought I would see if I could install the Android car play system into the car and then realise how high and easy it would be to tempt someone to try and steal it.
A new plan. I will look into a cover for my dashboard. But while I think about that I installed the new LED bulbs for the overhead light. They are a lot brighter when tested out in the evening, I am happy with that.
Additional information I should have seen when buying: Under the passenger side. The sliding door is a massive dent. It’s so big it doesn’t, a hundred per cent, seal the bottom of the door. I am hoping it can be fixed, but, at the moment, the car is still okay.
Sunday 20th
It’s that season again! When everyone in the country celebrates by getting infected by their loved ones and then having the honour of going to their workplace and infecting the rest of the country. I’m surprised there isn’t a holiday for this. Oh, I forgot it’s called a sick day.
Luckily I haven’t been affected too badly. Just a little sore throat. And maybe a cough.
I found out about another course at work that I may be able to go on. And something else might be happening. I will wait until it has been confirmed but I hope I will be able to stick my middle fingers at them. We will see. Just to be clear: I have no problems with my present job. But the previous…
Monday 21st
Well, at least someone likes me…
The flying insects can’t help themselves and find me a tasty snack. Over the past week and last night, I have been bitten about ten times so far. They have had a bit of the wife as well. We are loving it. So mUcH!
I contacted a company called Airtasker. It is a site where you can get in contact with odd-job professionals who you pay, to do jobs that you require to be done. I need to have two hardwire kits installed with a reverse camera. Even if I could do it myself I would screw something up somewhere and I don’t know what I am doing. Well, I understand the process. But the doing part is a little beyond me.
Today someone answered my ad.
Thursday 24th
The man from the ad I placed on Airtasker has finally agreed to my date and time. Even though my original date and time were ignored. After waiting for his response. They don’t move themselves. He will be arriving on the 2nd of November.
I received an email from one of the managers I wrote to about the other job I applied for. He would like to have a sit down with me.
Friday 25th
Because they didn’t have any staff at work to cook the food, today, I brought my own. I realised afterwards that my small stomach problems were being caused by the canteen. So, I am going back to making my own packed lunches. I did get some looks as I decided to go outside and eat near the smoking hut on the picnic benches. They are just jealous!
I have been attacked by the Gnates again. Head to toe, I am a pin cushion of lumps and holes.
Meeting with my manager, he discussed that he was concerned I wasn’t happy with my present role. I explained: that I was in need of some more hours and I was happy with how things were going.
The course I asked about is confirmed, and anything else: will have to wait until at least January. So, so far so good.
Saturday 26th
After a few days of tension with the wife, it triggered an attack. It was a small one. But I was stuck on the sofa for a couple of hours until I felt good enough to move again. It was my first since May so that’s not too bad. But I will still have to spend a while healing from it.
Tuesday 29th
The wife, for a few years, has been wanting to go to the Tim Burton exhibition. The problem. It has been popping up everywhere else in the world, except England. And guess what I found on Instagram by chance. The Musem has arrived in London and is open until April next year. So of course we will be visiting on her birthday.
It is happening at the Design Museum.
Wednesday 30th
I am not happy. I woke up for work to find a letter for me, from Bury Council. They have sent me a parking fine for when I had just bought my new car. It was still in Manchester. I can say I have never been to Manchester; in my life.
Thursday 31st
I have put in my appeal for the parking charge not relising afterwards that they had taken pictures and I hadn’t seen them. One part of the appeal will be wrong. With me stating the car was on a trailer at the time. It wasn’t, it was just left in a car park.
Here’s hoping my evidence will be enough for them to drop the charge.
I am hoping also the Gnats will die off soon. I have never had so many lumps all over my body.
Just one more thing: Don’t use a plastic ruler to unclog your letter shredder.
Okay, I will see you next month.
