Things I have Re-Watched #2

The Librarians

Librarians is one of the few shows that I can watch over and over again. And I have.

This TV series started as a trilogy of TV movies called The Librarian. The first being: The Quest for the Spear. 2004. Second: Return to King Solomon’s Mines. 2005. And third: Curse of the Judas Chalice. 2008.

The story starts with Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle), a man who has hidden himself inside the walls of a university. Constantly learning to keep himself away from the outside world. Until one day he was thrown out to get some real life experience.

Whilst lounging around in self pity at home he receives an invitation for a job interview at the Metropolitan library. Charlene (Jane Curtin) is there to give the interview. So of course, he gets the job and is plunged head first into a secret underground organisation that protects the world from dangerous magical artifacts. By locking them up in the Library. And with that is sent on his first mission to retrieve the spear of destiny. He is also advised by who will later become a father figure Judson (Bob Newhart). He also gets some help in the first movie from his Guardian Nicole Noone (Sonya Walger).

All three movies are a cheesy version of Indiana Jones. Mixed in a world of a secret organisation built from the world of magic. The typical family, magical, fun themed movies. I was slightly disappointed with the second film with how they forced the love interest. For some reason the lead and female protagonist HAD to get it on. There was no need. It did not make any difference to the story. And to do it they had to get her drunk. But apart from that it is still a fun film. But Ho Hum.

Trivia: Jonathan Frakes, Will Riker from Star Trek: The Next Generation. Directed and cameoed in the second and Third films. And Produced the third season.

A few years later in 2014. The movies were turned into a TV series, lasting four seasons. Where Noah Wyle returned as a background lead character to allow some new characters to take control. Jane Curtin and Bob Newhart also returned for cameos.

The new stories starts with someone trying to get in contact with Flynn. But being killed just before finding him. This leads to finding out that all of the candidates that went to Flynns interview are being killed off.

Colonel Eve Baird (Rebecca Romijn), Nato agent. Has a brief meeting with flynn whilst taking out some terrorists. Flynn is recovering an artifact and helps eve whilst disarming a bomb. When she reports this she is told to take some leave. This is when she is recruited to become the new Guardian.

There are only three candidates left: Cassandra Cillian (Linda Booth), Jacob Stone (Christian Kane) and Ezekiel Jones (John Harlan Kim). Flynn and Eve must get to them before the Serpent Brotherhood kills them first.

But something goes wrong when the Library is invaded and an emergency protocol has to be activated. And the Library is lost from our plain of reality. This leads them to find Jenkins (John Larroquette), the unknown caretaker of the Library and his off site office of the Library.

Now Flynn with Eve and the last three candidates must continue to “work” together to get back the Library and save the world.

This show is great family fun. Where you can learn some things and enjoy the comedic, fantasy adventures and have fun working out puzzles. I insist you give this show a chance. You will not regret it.
