The Book Report #91

Clarksons Farm – Diddly Squat – Book 3

Pigs Might Fly By Jeremy Clarkson
The Book
The book was first printed in 2023 by Penguin Random House UK.
My copy is a first print hardback with 186 pages, including advertisements for Diddly Squart Farm shop and other books that Mr Clarkson has written.
What Did I Think
This is the third book in the series from the popular Amazon hit show: Clarkson’s Farm. However, it looks like my wife bought me the wrong book. I am missing book 2. And I didn’t realise until I started looking for a digital copy. Not a big deal, I can buy it at a later date.
The book is essentially a diary of events, which I believe were printed in the newspaper for which he writes articles.
We follow Jeremy and the gang as they plough through the never-ending problems of farming over a new year. Jeremy is working on his plans to make money. This includes his next adventure with pigs. Although not mentioned in the book, he invented a metal ring to help prevent piglets from being squashed.
While Kaleb is annoyed by some amateur farmers being allowed by Jeremy to try a new way of farming on his land, Kaleb is not allowed to do anything about it. Clearly pissing him off.
He is still experiencing difficulties with the local council while he tries to improve the land he farms.
And all the way through, he tries his best to do good for himself, his friends, family and the community. Do not question his “genius”.
Details
Mr Clarkson isn’t James May. Which is a little bit of a shame. Yes, Mr Clarkson tells you what is briefly going on, but there is no detail going through each stage. And yes, I enjoyed reading it, but the bulk of the book is missing. I would have enjoyed some more information. And maybe Mr May would overindulge, but if you have a platform like Mr Clarkson has, and I know he discusses this in other media. I would have liked to be told a tad more about what is happening.
Otherwise, this is a fun escape reading. Where it is isn’t over-politicised, and you aren’t preached on about how the farming world is being destroyed, even though it slowly is.
Would You Recommend
So, if you enjoyed the Clarkson’s Farm series, this will be a nice addition to catch up on briefly. There isn’t much detail, just a quick summary of what happened during the year. I rushed through this book very quickly and could have finished it in a day. I nearly did.
Or, if you don’t have time to watch the series and have five minutes to spare, this book will satisfy most. But don’t expect a great dissertation of detail; it is straightforward and to the point on what is happening, and that’s all you’re getting.
I would recommend.
Please give this book a go.
